Worst regular season games

The Pittsburgh loss sucked because I was at the game, and I hate paying money to see them lose. But in the big scheme of things, it's not such a damaging loss. The Pens have slipped below elite status and the Wings dominated the game until they lost interest.

It's losing to the big rival teams and being outplayed badly against a measuring stick team that really eats at me. That Sharks game people are talking about was one of those games that killed me. Up 3-0 and the allowing 9 straight or whatever happened that night; man.

Any losses to physical/dirty teams like the Ducks or Flames when the Wings get manhandled; the loss when Pronger elbowed Datsyuk in the head and the Wings DID NOTHING. That's the demoralizing sh** for me. Showing no guts and no heart and losing without any self respect. That stuff is way worse than this game.

See a trend.... In an 82 game season, there will be a few games every season where we blow a big 3rd period lead.

How about posting those games where we can back from a big 3rd period deficit.... I remember one game in 05-06 where Dallas was up 2-0 half way into the 3rd at the Joe only to see us win 3-2.

I also one that I loved was the one against Chicagowhere we were trailing 2-0 all game. We scored a goal with the empty net at the 47 second left mark. We kept the pressure on and scored the tieing goal with 7 seconds on the clock. The game went to overtime and Datsyuk scored just as the buzzer went off. They reviewed it for ages and marked it as a goal giving the wings the win.

What was this person... like 10? seriously worst game eva... i mean eva eva ... HAHAHAHA yeah right

Welcome to the 80's mr. banks when the wings sucked on a nightly basis.

I thought the pens/wings game was amazing. I loved all the scoring! Being there made it even more exciting.

Its ONE LOSS get over it already!

We could nominate the entire 80's

I have fond memories though of watching Stevie Y and the Wings with NO expectations of ever winning anything. And hearing the score of the "Dead Things" announced on the radio on my way to school every morning....

Or how 'bout Game 2 of the 1998 Stanley Cup Final? Washington was up 3-1 with 12 minutes left in the 3rd, but we came back and won 5-4 on a OT goal by Draper.

BTW probably one of my favorite Wings games.

Someone in the gameday thread said yesterday's loss was the worst ever for the Wings. Not even close, I thought.

To keep things in perspective I've been thinking of games that were far more egregious and consequential than last night's.

Please nominate your worst regular season game ever (hopefully it will help make last night look insignificant in comparison).

My nominee:

April 6, 2003 Wings vs. Blackhawks

last game of the regular season

Wings lose to the Blackhawks in OT 3-4 and wind up losing the Pres trophy by 1 point to the Dallas Stars. More so than the trophy, we had to face the #7 seed Anaheim Ducks in the first round, in which the Red Wings were swept out of the playoffs in 4 games straight. Had the Red Wings faced the #8 Oilers in round 1, we may have gone on to face the Ducks in round 2 , and probably lost anyways. But still, the sweep started with the inability to hold onto a single point in the last game of the season. :(

The stars didn't even won that trophy that year, it was the Senators. They (the stars) ended up the Western Conference champions (nothing else)

ah, yes, good, good stuff. wasn't draper the one who scored with like seven seconds left? or maybe he scored the earlier one, i don't remember. or maybe he didn't at all.

Last year in February.......

My first live Red Wings game against Calgary. No Hasek, Lidstrom, Kronwall, Rafalski, Cleary

Our Starting lineup that night:

Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Holmstrom

Hudler - Filppula - Samuelsson

Draper - Maltby - Franzen

Kopecky - Downey - Drake

Lilja - Lebda

Meech - Chelios

Quincey - Ericsson

Osgood

Howard

The result was Kipper's first SO of the year and I believe it was the first time in like 200+ games that Detroit got shutout.

A 1-0 game that was in the middle of Detroit's BIG slump last year when we had injury problems where we lost in a game with one goal that was a fluke from behind the net. Such a boring game!!
