MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted November 14, 2008 It came out today that the Ducks filed papers to allow Brian Burke to speak with other teams. Those were accepted by the NHL early this afternoon. Tomorrow, Brian Burke will fly to Vancouver to meet with the Toronto Maple Leafs as they're in town to take on the Canucks. Looks like it will be done fairly soon. BeeRYCE 2 Report post Posted November 14, 2008 If Burke ends up on the Leafs, I'll once again hate them. I just started coming to terms with them as well, being underdogs and proving critics wrong and all. Can't stand Burke, and his presence alone will make me hate the Leafs again. HomeNugget 2 Report post Posted November 15, 2008 I think this will really prove Burke's worth as a GM. If he succeeds in Toronto no one can say that he inherited anything.
A.T.Hun 0 Report post Posted November 15, 2008 I feel bad for the Maple Leaf fans. Just when you thought the organization (pronounced organIZEation) had bottomed out, they bring in ol' Burkie. OK, so I don't feel THAT bad.
55fan 5,133 Report post Posted November 15, 2008 On the brighter side, once he's done trading away all their talent to sign Selanne and Neidermeyer, we'll get to see a lot of Kronwall vs Kronwall when we play them.
miller76 463 Report post Posted November 15, 2008 I am curious to see how this plays out. The team went publicly with stating their intentions and goals for this year to be a rebuilding franchise. Now their going to bring Burke in, who will make a few changes and get this team maybe decent at best, maybe make a couple playoff runs, get nice and close and then fizzle. Then that whole rebuilding thing looked a lot better back in the 08-09 season, then trading away the talent you had left and every high draft pick that was traded or thrown away from some shady deal. Now the team is still in the dumper and still the punchline of the league. And to see how Ron Wilson and Brian Burke will cohabitate there is beyond me. I'm curious to see how Wilson reacts to Burke telling him he is bringing an enforcer in, and the team is going to focus on defense. Might as well start looking for a new head coach as well. just my opinion though.

miller76 463 Report post Posted November 16, 2008 They're best friends, I think they'll manage. Were best friends. The guys on nhl home ice on xm have been talking about it non-stop. They're not thinking it will be a long relationship there. Mostly because of the differences in which they think the game should be played..
