mjlegend 155 Report post Posted November 19, 2008 Man they are danm good they shut down the pens with ease there defence is scarey good...and There goalie jeezus..... Meh. They've proven year after year they can't sustain it, and they've had better D than this year. They'll be better with Gaborik but his heart isn't set on staying there so I'm not sure he doesn't bolt after the season. They might package him up to LA for prospects. They're in a crappy division, so they might end up third in the conference again.
YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted November 19, 2008 The Wild have had really impressive stretches over the past few years it seems. Seems like they always go for about 20 games where they get a point in about 18 of those 20. But I also don't believe in those cross-season generalizations, so I'm not going to say "oh the Wild always do well for X amount of time and then end up blowing it." They've got the look of a contender, but anything can happen in the playoffs.
AtomicPunk 296 Report post Posted November 19, 2008 Most boring team right now in the NHL to watch. And jerseys are hideous. Reminds of the 82 os so Devils "Christmas Tree" jerseys.

lfd250 1 Report post Posted November 19, 2008 Wait til bettman finds out you're talking bad about His team. The wild didn't win. Cindy and the birds lost. Please change your mind before the guys in the suits show up at your door.
IceMunkee 15 Report post Posted November 19, 2008 I think the Wild look good, lets not be overzealous though. Their defense did not exactly shut the Pens down. The third period was owned almost completely by the pens or a long drawn out battle in the Nuetral Zone. Backstrom kept them in the game and won it for them. The Wild are good but need to get alot better offensively to be really considered a contender. I mean they will make the playoff's, but really only like two teams don't. BeeRYCE 2 Report post Posted November 19, 2008 Why does everyone get so surprised with this team, they come out of the gates the same way every year. It's Lemaire.
Dabura 12,232 Report post Posted November 19, 2008 Good defense, lame offense. If/when the Wings get their act together, they will have great defense and great offense. I'd take that over good defense and lame offense in a playoff series any day of the week.
Aussie_Wing 354 Report post Posted November 19, 2008 The only reason to watch them is Brent Burns. How good is he? Played as a forward tonight and looked threatening. Would have to have the longest reach in the league.

DraperFan MN 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2008 I'm a transplant who lives and works in Minneapolis, and this doesn't qualify me for anything, other than I get to watch the Wild more than most, on tv and in person. This team may capture lightning in a bottle, but they will bore their fans to death in the process. I'd rather let paint dry on my eyeballs than watch this team for an entire game. I think Lemaire is ridiculous as a coach, and if it wasn't for really good hockey people in this organization that somehow keep a decent level of talent in the organization, the honeymoon would be over. No matter what though, this is a hockey mad state, and they keep filling the seats. Which is another reason why this organization pisses me off so much. The "X" is filled every night, and they rarely go out and spend any money.
The Mule 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2008 Backstrom is a fantastic goalie, and if you ask me, the Wild are much better off without Gaborik.

GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted November 19, 2008 Gaborik, and the whole team for that matter, have been playoff busts the last few years because of their inability to score goals. This team shouldn't scare anybody except for the viewers that have to watch their boring style of play.
wings5gal 0 Report post Posted November 20, 2008 Backstrom is a fantastic goalie, and if you ask me, the Wild are much better off without Gaborik. I have to second this. Backstrom is doing very well. And I am sick to death of hearing about Marian Gaborik. (Who by the way has received 2200 votes or something like that for the all star game, despite the fact that if he doesn't start playing soon, he will be totally ineligable). And I did think Burns did a nice job as forward last night. But I do get very frustrated watching the back and forth with no score for 2 periods. Does make for rather dull hockey. The fight with Staal and Backstrom's save on Crosby in the shoot out were about the only exciting bits for me. And DraperFan MN - The Twin Cities is about the only place in MN where you can get Wild games with any regularity. Elsewhere in the state (I'm in the southeast corner by WI) they are occasionally on FSN-N or VS. Otherwise, we can't get them. They do not broadcast that much outside of the metro area. Which is kinda stupid for a team that brags to be a team of 18000. But that's my side rant there. As of right now...I pretty much watch when I can for Backstrom. That's about it. Backstrom is a talent I was referring to in my initial post, and they stumbled on to him. Yes, he was in their system, but this organization took waaaaay too long in sorting out the Fernandez/Roloson situation, and when their hand was finally forced, Backstrom just took the job and made both of them expendable. I know what you mean about TV coverage. This team is not only boring, but you're right, they aren't shown much in outstate Minnesota. Even here in the Twin Cities, you STILL can't get the games in HD on a regular basis. My theory is that the gate has been and continues to be so good, they just don't have to put forth the effort. Louisville 112 Report post Posted November 20, 2008 I have to get off on a tangent here...the intro to the Pens vs Wild game was a joke. I know the NHL glamorizes the Penguins but it's getting more than annoying. The first two minutes involved showing almost every goal the Pens scored against the Wings in our overtime loss, with flashes of Staal's and Crosby's faces in between shots. First of all, doesn't that just piss you off right there? The Pens are playing the Wild, so show CLIPS OF THEM PLAYING EACH OTHER. Then it goes to, ONE MAN STANDS IN THEIR WAY. Then they show Backstrom. Then they show Backstrom make two saves. TONIGHT. End of intro. Also, I have to say that the Penguins baby blue sweaters look like a high school team's jersey.
