I wouldn't feel too bad about cheating on them... cause well they seemed to move on just fine without you ;) maybe it was just a one-sided relationship anyways

i see your article stems from a phoenix newspaper. do you live here, and are you going to the game on dec 13th vs the coyotes?

No I live in Windsor, Ontario just across the river from Detroit. I was not aware that my posts picked up different cities as its originating locale. It looks like it picks up the city on our network that is closest to yours. Enjoy the game on the 13th and that is a road trip I would love to take!

HERE IS THE STORY WITHOUT HAVING TO CLICK THE LINK

I feel like I've cheated on the Red Wings

On Thursday I attended the Buffalo Sabres at Florida Panthers game instead of the Vancouver Canucks at the Detroit Red Wings game, and feel like I cheated on the Red Wings.

And while the Joe Louis Arena was probably rocking while the Wings scored three straight goals in the third pereiod only to hold on for a one goal victory, the Panthers also held on for a one goal victory. However the Bank Atlantic Center was somewhat quiet, and had just as many Sabres fans.

After an email from my friend Capper following the Montreal Canadiens at Detroit game last week, I was curious to see the Panther pregame presentation and compare it to show at Joe Louis Arena.

I was interested because my buddy Capper indicated how disappointed he was by the lack of entertainment at Joe Louis Arena in comparison to the Bell Centre in Montreal.

The Canadiens put on a show similar to the show the Wings put on prior to the playoff games last season. The difference is they do it for their home games, and Capper was expecting to be enteretained before the game as well as during the game.

So I was curious to see what the Panthers do prior to the game.

With a little more than five minutes remaining before the players take the ice to start the game the lights in Bank Atlantic Center were brought down, and the music was fired up, there was a light show on the ice and a film clip on the scoreboard to get the Panther fans fired up.

And I wondered why don't the Red Wings do the same, they did it in the playoffs. The pregame show is the same now as it was 20 years ago, except the music has changed.

Would it improve the experience?

Now the entertainment during the game did not measure up to a Red Wings game, and the atmosphere in the building did not come close to the Joe Louis Arena during a Red Wings game, especially a 6-5 shootout.

So although I enjoyed the weather outside the building, the carpeted concourse of the Bank Atlantic Center, the pregame show, and the off ice entertainment during the game, I missed the noise of the crowd at Joe Louis and the on-ice entertainment the Red Wings provide.

i dont get why people are making a stink over the OP redirecting to his blog, this is at least his 5th post and no one said anything before. if it bothers you so much, look for the OP name in the original post column, right next to the title, and dont read?

Personally, I prefer the fanfare and the like they used in the playoffs. It gets the place jumping, and you can see the team feeding off it.

Comparing my 3 most recent Wings games, 2 playoff and 1 regular season...

Game 2, WCF against Dallas. Light show, the flamethrowers after Wing goals, and the place was going nuts. Same was seen for game 5 against Nashville. The emotion was palpable, and you could see the lift the team got from it. The noise was incredible, for every second. I've been to rock concerts (last was Korn in '99), I've been to football games with 36,000 in the stands, basketball games with 15,000 in a tiny arena, and none of them were as loud as the Joe during OT of that Nashville game.

NY Rangers, 08-09 regular season. No lightshow or pregame entertainment to work up the fans, and it showed. They eventually got warmed up, and the house came down when Hossa scored in OT, but for the first period it was quiet as a church except when there was a goal. The crowd was down, and it showed in the play on the ice.
