Opie 308 Report post Posted December 15, 2008 (edited) Lets list the things wrong with this idea in no particular order: 1. RFA at season's end if someone makes him an offer picks for the Wings. 2. No goalie available that fits the bill, what team in their right mind gives up a top ten netminder for Hudler. There are only 10 teams with that kind of goalie why would you put yourself in a worse situation, unless you thought you had a top 10 in the waiting, ala Price Huet last season (not that they were top 10 but you get the gist). EDIT- OH yeah 3. Salary cap, Wings are up against it and Hudler makes barely anything compared to the points he is putting up. 4. He is M-F***ing 4th on the team in points, this is like the trade Sammy non-sense of years past, trade a top 6 forward because I don't like him! Well after that I can't recall any other ideas bad or otherwise you had. Edited December 15, 2008 by Opie

GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted December 15, 2008 Trade Franzen too. He's productive and a free agent at the end of the season.
Frozen-Man 144 Report post Posted December 15, 2008 Especially not with that attitude... sheeze.... I covered your pont before you made it, when I said the guys I mentioned can steal a game and ours can't... watch the tape... Also, its common sense that a talented goalie on a poor team when given some support on a good team will be as good (minimum) or better (likely). Yeah Cujo proved that common sense is not always right. Sometimes they are worse much, much worse. Sometimes what makes them good is having to be good all the time, always having to be sharp, facing 35-40 shots and being actively involved all the time - something that doesn't happen with Detroit goalies very much. Frozen-Man 144 Report post Posted December 15, 2008 If the playoffs started now and this team was to run into a hot goalie in a series or a team with solid goaltending and a solid offence (San Jose comes to mind) we'd be toast... Ozzie was good enough last year, I am more than willing to agree with that. But right now he's a liability, he is playing terribly and his win/loss record is due mainly to winning games 5-4 or 6-5 or in the shootout. Ozzie is in a slup yes, so far its called the 2008-09 season, he's not stolen a game yet... he has, so far, let in a few less goals (in most cases 1 less) goal/s than the offence can overcome. The guys timing, positiong and puck handeling have been terrible all season... Last year was great, but what has he done lately? Not too much! Also, for those of you who think people who have this opinion are way off in left field... have you been watching the games on FSN Detroit?? The boys in the booth have been saying similar things lately... but you likely think they are retarded too. And if the other team's players had machetes we would be in trouble too. But . . . . . . the playoffs aren't starting now, we always might run into a hot goalie no matter who is our goalie, and the other team doesn't get machetes. So I see no reason to get rid of a goalie who has 3 Stanley cups, two Jennings trophies, Led NHL in GAA last year (regular season 2.09 & playoffs 1.55), four time all-star, plus our #4 leader in points (who makes almost nothing) plus Flip/whoever for a goalie who has done nothing and MIGHT be better perhaps. You say Ozzy was good enough last year but is not this year? Good thing that Kenny doesn't just trade away players (especially goalies who are notoriously streaky as indicated from your comment that we might run into a hot goalie in the hypothetical playoffs that are going on right now) who are proven winners (12th all time I believe) for something new and twice the cost. Finally, Dom was one of the best goalies ever and we lost with him too. If we face a good team with a goalie that is just on fire we are in trouble a la Calgary and Edmonton recently (and we had pretty good goalies then too). Krayzie_Bone 58 Report post Posted December 16, 2008 (edited) I have to agree I wouldent mind seeing Hudler go if the wings could get a better goalie maybe Roloson. I would wait a while longer just to see if ozzy or Conklin get hot. I wouldent mind seeing even Samuelsson or Lebda thrown in the mix exchanging one or the other. I think Helm is about ready to be in the lineup everyday. I still worry about what will happen in the off season with Hossa, Zetterberg and Franzen being UFA's. SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted December 16, 2008 how do u kno they dont? I certainly don't, no more or less than you do, but suggesting trading one of your better wingers right now for a backup goalie while a team has no cap room and to now have 3 NHL-caliber goalies on the book just doesn't seem like a smart idea.
