stevkrause 1,247 Report post Posted December 16, 2008 Almost 3 weeks ago it was reported on thefourthperiod.com that he should be signing to a new club within the next couple of days... fast forward almost a month and still nothing... I got to imagine the only reason no one has signed him yet was because all the teams(basically) in the running for him, also got involved in the Sundin sweepstakes... on any note, I hope he finds a team soon, too good of a player to not end his career properly... Especially since I get the impression that New York led him along. He obviously isn't the player he used to be, but I hope he at least gets one last playoff run in somewhere. He had 23 points and 23 goals last year with the Rangers and added five points in the playoffs (not bad, considering they were eliminated in the second round). He's always been a solid, go-to player and he's yet to proven that he can no longer handle that task. It has been widely reported there that the Rangers have no intention in signing him. I am sure the Sundin saga has something to do with all this. Even though there are a handfull of teams that are interested, he is very picky, due to where him and his family live. They want to remain in the NY area. I guess I just saw his point totals of 81, 62, then 46 the last three years as part of his decline along with that at least to me he's seemed a step slower last year. Damn it Sundin, sign or retire. It bums me every time I remember that Shanny's not playing right now. He's one of my faves, has been from the first time he put on a Wings jersey. And no, I don't want him to sign with the Wings either - he knows that his time in Detroit is still over. You'd have to think there's a team or multiple teams out there that wants to sign him, but are waiting out this whole Sundin BS. If Sundin signs with New York (as I'm almost certain he will, as I seriously believe he doesn't want to be in the Western Conference), I could see Vancouver picking up Shanny as a consolation prize. If for some reason Vancouver gets Sundin, however, Shanny's still in limbo since the Rangers are clearly done with him. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
miller76 463 Report post Posted December 17, 2008 Bob McKenzie talked about an hour ago on xm about Shanny. He said there were multiple contracts prepared and ready to be signed by teams in the west. But a western team was real low on a possibility for a fit for him. He doesn't want the hard travel. He said this could have been done a month ago. And Shanny is going to play where he wants to. But the freezing of the rosters this Friday, and the Sundin situation taking priority with multiple intrested clubs in the east, will probably halt any type of deal being made until the trade deadline comes around next spring.
