scotzman 29 Report post Posted January 12, 2009 Worst music guy in professional sport. Everytime I hear "Wide Open Spaces", I cringe. Yes it fits, but it sucks. This is hockey, not the grand ole opry. I can appreciate players having their own songs in the mold of Shanny's Irish Jig, but the music selection on the whole is awful. I'm with ya' on the music... so cheesy. I'm sure it appeals to all the hockey mom's and their Mighty Mite children, but he has been playing the same songs for at least 20 years or so. Maybe when the Wings get a new building things can get an update music-wise... either way, I'm much more concerned with a great team than great music in between puck drops. 34Legace34 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2009 I know that the guy at the Joe does play some top40 sometimes, but its better than hearing it ALL the time like at some arenas. I would rather hear him keep playing the classics than hear the usual billboard stuff all the time. Does he even cue the "Rudy" speech anymore? I remember it used to get the crowd pumped when the Wings were down a goal late in the 3rd, but I havent been to a game in a while with that situation, so Im not to sure if he still plays it. (nobody, and i mean nobody, comes into our house, and pushes us around)
Hockeytown_Ryan 122 Report post Posted January 13, 2009 (edited) I like when the penalties go with the music....... Innocent Man Whats going on and all that Jazz What I want is the "Z" Zorro vid they show there ..... I would love to have that (when Zett scores obviously) Edited January 13, 2009 by Hockeytown_Ryan
Blueliner 69 Report post Posted January 13, 2009 I like how they play music that applies to the situation. Like when the other team gets a holding penalty, they play the "Hold me" song, and the "No more Mr. Nice Guy" song when the other team scores. But my favorite is on a Saturday night when they play "Piano Man" right at nine o'clock.
Ms_Hockey 0 Report post Posted January 14, 2009 This topic reminded me of watching the Wings games during the Christmas season. I laughed my butt off when they played "I'm gettin' nothing for Christmas" when the opposing team got a penalty.
Louisville 112 Report post Posted January 14, 2009 I never pay attention to the music after a player scores but that's pretty cool Datsyuk has Russian folk song.
Namingway 146 Report post Posted January 15, 2009 I lol whenever they play "One is a lonely number" when the other team finally gets one after the wings have quite a lead. I think they did it not too long ago.
Hank 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2009 (edited) Awesome. Another gimmic song for this idiot DJ to play. I can say this with all honesty that if I was allowed to murder one person with no repercussions it would be the guy that does the music at the Joe. Through years of playing the same tired old songs, or adding new gimmicy homer songs, he's moved far ahead on my list, blowing past Oprah. "And I say, Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey! What's going on?" 10,098,038,764,238,638,897 times played and counting. I lol whenever they play "One is a lonely number" when the other team finally gets one after the wings have quite a lead. I think they did it not too long ago. That song has been played for over a decade at the joe for that same occurrence. I've decided that when I am allowed to murder him, I'm going to force him to listen to the same lame music he's been subjected me to for the past 15 years non-stop until his ears and eyes bleed. The guy that does the music for Wings games is a genius... I remember him playing some German song that kept repeating Du Lang every time Robert Lang would score. Can anyone ring off some of the rock songs that are commonly played at the Joe? Theres one that I would like to find, but have no idea what it's called. He plays "believe in a thing called love" by The Darkness alot, but thats not the one im looking for. That's not a German song. It's that old 60's tune called "He's so fine" by the Chiffons. It was recorded in 1960. And he's not a genius. He's an idiot. Can we not listen to ONE song that doesn't have a stupid meaning to it? Can I hear a Metallica song now and then to pump up the crowd? Of course not. Because he's a moron. Honestly, I don't get how anyone could like this guy. If you've been a wings fan for at least 5 years you should be sick of this crap by now. I can honestly say I still hear songs he played from 15 years ago. Everytime I go to a game, my wife laughs at me because I'm able to guess the song he's going to play before it's even played. It's a joke. It's tired. And it's extremely annoying. Edited January 15, 2009 by Hank
fudsak 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2009 I really love the ice rinks that focus mainly on the pipe organs. Especially when, in addition to your traditional hockey songs, they play covers of modern music on the organ and it sounds hilarious.
drwscc 212 Report post Posted January 15, 2009 I really love the ice rinks that focus mainly on the pipe organs. Especially when, in addition to your traditional hockey songs, they play covers of modern music on the organ and it sounds hilarious. They did that at the Stars/Wings game the other night. They played an organ version of Seven Nation Army, i think. Was pretty funny.
Kira 451 Report post Posted January 15, 2009 There are just so many things you can get away with on a pipe organ. I'm sorry but metal is not one of them. Not unless you can talk Garth Hudson into being your arena's organist.
Guest Four Report post Posted January 16, 2009 I find it hilarious envisioning Pavel on the bench after he scores, with this song on and hes singing and bouncing his head side to side with all smiles..
