amsoil33 13 Report post Posted January 16, 2009 These guys bring a special energy to the hitting lines and always play with a high level of competitiveness and skill. They play aggressively, skate quick and hard, and they have better hands than most third and fourth liners. Players like Maltby and Draper play consistently well on their line, but I don't see why there should be any reason why they couldn't sit out some games and let our young guys get in and give it a try. Do you all agree?

amsoil33 13 Report post Posted January 16, 2009 Salary cap issues for why we can't call anyone up. And Helm is injured. Ya I was aware Helm was injured.. I just meant in general terms regarding our young guys such as Helm. But I didn't think of the cap.. you do have a point there. But I think people know what I am trying to get at here. Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted January 16, 2009 When the salaries are paid and the roster movement is freed up in the playoffs I don't doubt Helm will be the first guy back into the line up.
Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted January 17, 2009 I miss Helm. Kids got a jump that's for sure. I guess one thing is now clear. When Drapes and Malts go bye bye, though an era will end, their time is past and we have plenty of spunky guys to take over that line. Sorry, don't mean to be harsh, but that's what Detroits 4th line is all about - drive over talent. Our fourth line USED to be one that just shut you down and might even score now and again. I wan't to see that again and with new faces. I'll always love the grinders for what they contributed, but it is time to move on. Good god. And I'm not referring to what you said. TheOwl 77 Report post Posted January 17, 2009 (edited) Leino must play!! Of all the forwards in Grand Rapids, he has the brightest potential of being a 1st or 2nd liner in a few years. Edited January 17, 2009 by TheOwl
YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted January 17, 2009 I think its pretty obvious that Holland is hording cap space at all costs right now. Unless a rash of injuries occurs, I don't think we'll see any movement between Grand Rapids and Detroit until March, which is encouraging. It shows that Holland is still keeping his eye peeled for a possible deadline deal.
swiss_fan 3 Report post Posted January 17, 2009 Personally i think Meech should play more. C'mon we all know what Kopecky and Maltby can bring us... Giving Meech a real chance (not like now, to play 1 game out of 5..) by really rotating theses guys is... required i think. Everytime i saw him on the ice i was nicely surprised.
