HenrikRules40 14 Report post Posted January 18, 2009 That was one of the best games I've seen in quite a while. In both of the previous match-ups this season, one or the other team was not playing great, and the games ultimately weren't that fun to watch. This one, though... That's exciting hockey. Well there you go. That's plenty onside. And he has two steps on our D...minimum.

Well, I feel a lot better now about the loss. IT was a good call by the linesmen. Just bad D at that point.

Ms_Hockey 0 Report post Posted January 18, 2009 Our defense still needs some serious work. They play fine vs the Jackets, Columbus, etc., but are giving up way too many SOG to better teams. Those two brainfart giveaways in the third turned a sure OT into a W for SJ. And we seem to get pinned deep in our zone ALOT! And had a ton of trouble clearing, getting the puck up ice. But hey this was one of the top 3-4 teams in the league we played tonight (not sure I'd hand them a 1 outside the points) so things are tougher. We just need to make sure we take care of business next time SJ visits the Joe - that will set up a 2-2 tie for the season an make for an interested collision course in the POs. Agreed, our defense has a lot of shaping up to do. I'm confident that these losses will wake us up come playoffs. As for getting pinned in our zone... the Wings like to dump and chase. And when they do that against a team like SJ, who is faster than us, SJ gets the puck.. takes it into our zone.. and our sub-par defense is left to scramble to get it back. As far as I recall, the Wings have always had trouble with the Sharks in the shark tank. Next game at the Joe, I don't think we'll have as big of a problem as we did last night. (Granted Ozzie finds his game and/or Conklin is in net.)

Ms_Hockey 0 Report post Posted January 18, 2009 (edited) He doesn't have the puck on the blade there yet... bad picture, cant tell from that one As long as the puck crosses the blue line before both of his feet do, he's fine. His stick doesn't have to be touching the puck. Edited January 18, 2009 by Ms_Hockey
Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted January 18, 2009 Yes, with the clarity of a freeze-frame the play was obviously onside, but it looked so offside live it should've been whistled down anyways.

This is about one of the most retarded posts I've read, although mindfly did beat that with not knowing what offsides is. It wasn't a blowout game, and the Wings were well within reach of winning the game throughout the entire 60 minutes, and nearly sent it to OT. The fact that you would blame Ozzie for not staying up during a close game proves without a shadow of a doubt you are a fairweather fan. May the bandwagon speed off without you. Osgood sucked. To imply otherwise is epic fail. Was he the reason they lost? No. But he still looked awful and confused. The same way he has looked for a majority of the season. The Wings needed a world class goalie that night. Osgood was barely AAA. Second of all... who cares? All the Wings have to do is MAKE the playoffs. First place means very little, especially to the Wings who have shown that they are actually stronger on the road. The loss means NOTHING in the big picture. They've beaten the Wings before and everybody lived. Edited January 19, 2009 by Broken

The loss means NOTHING in the big picture. They've beaten the Wings before and everybody lived. Nonetheless, the Wings D should not get beat twice like that. Osgood wasn't there to bail either, and it's tough when you can't rely on your goalie to stick up for the D when things go sour. Between Ozzie and Nabokov, Nabokov was better. Wings played a good game, but the Sharks simply played better, and indeed it was one of the best games I've seen all year in terms of entertainment. Hopefully the Wings will even things up next month at home. Ozzie has been there to bail out the defense for a good part of the season, but the Wings losses cannot be attributes to Osgood when the defense is glaringly giving up chances like that. Was it Ozzie's fault the Wings gave 2 late breakaways to the Sharks (which DID lose the game) ? You can't blame Save % on that. To imply otherwise is epic fail. The rest of your post is just re-asserting what I already did, so not worth the response. Edited January 19, 2009 by Shoreline
GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted January 19, 2009 They will with this team, and a coach that's probably even better than Babcock.. total different team from last year even though the roster almost looks the same. Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted January 19, 2009 What are you basing that claim from? Leading the Wings by 3 points in the standings half-way through a season!!! Either that, or head trauma.
TheSupafly 50 Report post Posted January 19, 2009 Just to verify, I went back to my DVR and watched the Marleau breakaway goal frame by frame. I had it freeze framed with the puck clearly across the blue line and Marleau's skate on the ice, on the blue line. He was onside. I'll admit when I saw it live I thought my team got away with one, but it was a good non call. He was on.
