Jersey Wing 1,521 Report post Posted January 23, 2009 I almost expect a quote like "There is no point in continuing with All-Star weeeknd in Montreal since Sidney Crosby will be unable to play. All of our ad money has been spent in vain. The NHL is sorry for any inconvenience" For the second straight year the NHL All-Star game will be without one of the game's biggest stars as Sidney Crosby has pulled out of this weekend's mid-winter classic in Montreal. Crosby, who currently sits second in league scoring with 60 points has taken the advice of Penguins' doctors and will rest injured knee over the All-Star break. Doctors had recommended that the Pens' superstar not skate for four or five days. With the Pittsburgh in a battle for a playoff position, the team could be excused for not wanting one of their most valuable commodities to aggravate a lower-body injury. egroen 384 Report post Posted January 23, 2009 Unless they really do something to increase the value and excitement of the game, I only see this trend continuing.
55fan 5,133 Report post Posted January 23, 2009 (edited) They'll still have it. They've spent the money and sold the tickets. They're just re-billing it as the Canadiens vs the Ducks. EDIT: TSN just said Sidney will play after all so as not to get suspended. See the link in the "Bettman threatens to suspend Datsyuk and Lidstrom" thread. Game's on! esteef 2,679 Report post Posted January 23, 2009 Don't worry, they still have the 1200 Crosby hockey commercials they can play at every break in the action. esteef
Jersey Wing 1,521 Report post Posted January 23, 2009 Something's not adding up. He's on his way to Montreal so as not to offend the mighty Bettman even though in the press release as to why he's not playing team doctors say he shouldn't be on his skates for 4-5 days. So, it sounds like he'd miss the first game back anyways. Me smells a suck up job
55fan 5,133 Report post Posted January 23, 2009 (edited) He just has to show up for the handshaking, tux-wearing, tv interview stuff. He doesn't have to play if he's injured. They just want the big names there for the photo ops. Stupid, but there you have it. (The tux-wearing comment was sarcasm, but you know what I mean- posterboy stuff.) No I just meant he was gonna miss that next game most likely ANYWAY so why go. UNLESS the 4-5 days off his feet team doctor comment was bogus. I know he's going to probably gladhand and sign autographs and what not. I was just wondering why he'd go if it sounded like he's miss the next regular season game anyhoo. Now he can sit in the announcers booth for the second period
egroen 384 Report post Posted January 23, 2009 (edited) Unless they really do something to increase the value and excitement of the game, I only see this trend continuing. I spoke too soon. Bettman already has the answer: The way to make players really excited to attend the All Star game is TO FORCE THEM TO GO!. Brilliant! OsGOD 3 Report post Posted January 23, 2009 Crosby is a dumb ass.... like Betty would even consider ACTUALLY suspending him... maybe a bj in the back room or sumptin "sloppy" like that... but he wouldn't suspend his poster boy.

Lovin Jiri Fischer 147 Report post Posted January 23, 2009 I wish Crosby wouldn't go, so that Bettman would be forced to suspend him too. Yeah right.
drwscc 212 Report post Posted January 23, 2009 That's WHY Crosby is going. Bettman called him up and said "Sweetie, you have to at least come to Montreal so you don't get suspended. Those mean old Red Wingers guys are gonna get suspended though, and if you don't come, I'd have to suspend you too, Snookums."
