Outsider 42 Report post Posted January 27, 2009 Yeah....it's all fun and games until someone losses an eye. (yes....I said "losses".....don't ask) Or until the poor little pseudo puck-bunnies get all offended because the mean, ole, nasty hockey players are saying "bad" things to them (allegedly). The Islanders slush sluts have been the center of two major "incidents", both involving, (how surprising....), players from the New York Ranger$. Apparently, the Ranger's players were abusive, hostile, and Henrik Lundqvist, (noted devient that he is reported to be), went so far as to spit, (yes....that's what she alleges), on one of the girls, causing her to break down in blubbering tears, (off the ice and down the tunnel, of course, and out of view of the eyes of any witnesses other than her fellow slush sluts). Her tears (allegedly) drew even more abuse and taunts from the Ranger$ bench. Huge media snafu ensues, wherein said Ranger$ players were heard to respond with: "Whaaaaat? We did what?" (Confusion all around....) Now, I'm an Isles fan, and I hate the Rag$ with a passion. Having said that, when the stories broke, on two separate occasions, I didn't believe a word of it. Not one word. Scantily clad babes have their place. On the ice, during a hockey game, shoveling snow or otherwise, is not one of those places. Not only is it totally unneccessary, it's also just asking for trouble. Eventually.
Ms_Hockey 0 Report post Posted January 27, 2009 (edited) Who's mindlfy? I appologise for coming accross as a dick, but it was done in sincere hopes that it would help kickstart that child into learning that the way she thinks is simply not going to get her very far. Intelectual narcicism isn't something that employers of the 21st century are going to be interested in. Yes, I find actions that appeal to a man's sex drive to be degrading and rather immature. Clearly, that shows I'm a child. I better start adjusting myself to embracing the **** culture if I plan on getting anywhere in life - you're right. Also - Did I say I was correct and anybody else was wrong? I didn't. I simply said I have very strong beliefs in my own morals and opinions so you're not going to change my mind. I never said my opinion was therefore better than yours or vice versa. I'm not even going to bother continuing this discussion with you. Unlike your previous assessment, I'm not a child.. and as such, I don't take part in internet battles. Edited January 27, 2009 by Ms_Hockey

Doggy 130 Report post Posted January 27, 2009 A lot of people think I'm wound too tight.. which doesn't bother me at all. I don't drink, do drugs, wear revealing clothing, or support/encourage actions that feed off of those things. You may think I'm thin skinned. I'm just very strong in what I believe in. I have morals and class - which make up the majority of who I am. I love hockey and I love the Red Wings, and it would be insulting to me to add something so tacky and ridiculous into my hockey experience. In your opinion, are myself and my colleagues immoral and classless for selling liquor to liquor stores?

Scantily clad babes have their place. On the ice, during a hockey game, shoveling snow or otherwise, is not one of those places. Not only is it totally unneccessary, it's also just asking for trouble. Eventually. Now here we have a sticking point with me. I have no problem with slush sluts, but the matter you describe above is an issue. While there is no excuse for spitting on a girl (if it did happen), the girls have to realize that they are there dressed as they are for the viewing pleasure of the males, which will cause them to think nasty thoughts, which, in turn, will cause them to say nasty things. If they can't handle being treated like pieces of meat, they need another profession. They may well be intelligent, articulate, dignified women who just happen to be physically attractive, but when they accept the job, they accept the baggage that comes with it. Part of that baggage is that they are catering to the carnal desires of men. If they are walking around half-naked, they need to expect that men will act as they do around half-naked women. If you're not selling, don't advertise. They are selling. Not saying they are prostitutes in the strict sense of the word. Certainly a man touching them would be inappropriate. They are selling the fantasy. If a man sees them and dreams, they are doing their job. If a girl wants the job, and is willing to put up with being treated like a sex object, then I'm fine with that. But she needs to realize that she is a sex object. With a shovel. Shovels can hurt.
Chelichic 12 Report post Posted January 27, 2009 How about this reason: The good of the community. The Cheerleaders/ice girls/dance teams that represent professional sports teams frequently take part in many fund raisers and make a lot of appearences at charitable events. I dont go to fund raisers/charitable events to see some ice girl... I go to see the players. Players will bring in more then some ice girl any day.

Guest micah Report post Posted January 27, 2009 I dont go to fund raisers/charitable events to see some ice girl... I go to see the players. Players will bring in more then some ice girl any day. Okay, I'm not clear on what you're trying to say here - are you saying that there is some either/or situation that we must embrace, that we can either have players doing appearances and fund-raisers, or ice girls, but not both? Let's say players bring in $60,000,000,000 for charity. They don't, but hey, I'm being charitable here. Ice girls bring in $5000. Is that $5000 somehow not necesarry because the players brought in more, and do you believe that Detroit doesn't really need any more help that what they players are giving? That's a rare thing these days. The girl above can either choose to be offended by men at sporting events talking like men at sporting events, or she could choose not to. I don't really get why people ever choose to be offended, to be honest.
Guest GordieSid&Ted Report post Posted January 27, 2009 (edited) A lot of people think I'm wound too tight.. which doesn't bother me at all. I don't drink, do drugs, wear revealing clothing, or support/encourage actions that feed off of those things. The idea of ice girls WOULD be new for the Red Wings. I certainly don't tell the men to change their behavior when they're out drinking with their buddies - no matter how much I may want to. I know what I'm getting into when I'm brought to those events. But I see absolutely no reason for the Red Wings organization to feed off of the hormones of the guys in the stands. You may think I'm thin skinned. I'm just very strong in what I believe in. I have morals and class - which make up the majority of who I am. I love hockey and I love the Red Wings, and it would be insulting to me to add something so tacky and ridiculous into my hockey experience. The key point of the first bolded sentence is that you don't see. Not to hijack micah's point but if you weren't so close minded, it'd be quite easy to come up with at least 1 reason why Ice girls might benefit the team/atmosphere/community, etc....You wouldn't have to agree or like any of it, but being able to acknowledge it would prove you're capable of thinking outside of your personal belief structure. As for the 2nd bolded part. Bravo, you should have strong convictions. But that 2nd part just screams (whether you intended to or not) or insinuates that anybody not like-minded to you is of loose or no morals and lacks class. I think your post is very telling about the type of person you are. I don't know you but i'm not sure there's much to gain from you. You seem to view everything within your own bubble and whether micah is "being a dick" or not he has made a valid observation in my opinion in regards to your ability, or lack thereof to think critically. Like I said, you don't have to like or agree with somebody else's point of view. But you come of as extremely close-minded and very black and white. You seem to post in extremes. It's either classy or its not. You either have morals or you don't. Kind of an arrogant way to go about your life. And that's saying alot coming from an arrogant prick like me. Kudos to you I guess. egroen 384 Report post Posted January 27, 2009 (edited) I would prefer not to see them at games, just like I would prefer not to see clowns piling out of a tiny car at center ice... it all has its time and place, but I prefer my hockey games to have a bit of an 'old-time, traditional' feel instead of a circus, spring-break feel. Oh, and I can't believe GS&T is actually lecturing someone about being stubborn and arrogant Edited January 27, 2009 by egroen

Like I said, you are very extreme. So now these girls are all sluts? Dressing up like this is slutty? I guess figure skaters are all sluts too. Beach volleyball ladies sluts as well? Not sure what I understand to be the criteria for slutdom is. Is it dressing in a revealing manner? Or is it men's reactions to how they're dressed. If you're going to go with the statement "I find actions that appeal to a man's sex drive to be degrading and immature" I suggest you move to the middle-east or something where woman walk around in king size sheets. Do you have any idea how much of this world is organized and directed to appeal to men's and women's carnal nature? And seriously, if you've ever been around men (i'm not assuming something) you might know that it doesn't take a helluva lot to get a man's juices going, even if its just a subconscious thing in their heads. Men can get turned on if the wind blows in the right direction. Believe me, we don't need a whole lotta help getting frisky or even thinking about getting frisky. So the choices are no ice girls or anything that appeal's to men on a basic human level or it's xxx and having sex in a Burger King bathroom for us all!! YEAH! For the bolded part, actually that's not what you said. You said you have morals and class. You didn't elaborate. I took it to mean you were insinuating anybody who doesn't see it your way most decidedly does not have morals nor class. That's how I read it anyway. PS: By the way, like your web photos. The one that reads "captions are not cool" is a very nice picture of you. I'd let you be an ice girl. Oh, and it looks like Joe will get his tax cut in all likelihood. I know, I know, freaking crazy. I don't want them doing a center ice routine between periods but coming out to rev up the crowd and shovel snow? Meh, big deal, let 'em do it. And seriously, who hangs around in between periods. Intermission is for draining your lizard of all the beer you consumed during the period and for some, finding a place to fire up a heater. Me, I have no time to sit around in between periods to watch girls or clowns, i'm too busy standing in line to take a piss.

C-Dub 0 Report post Posted January 27, 2009 80 reasons the wings need ice girls courtesy of msnbc. http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/27226158/ i mean now that we can't spend 70 mil on team roster, we ought to put some of that extra cash to good use. you know, create some jobs in michigan! If that what it takes to get people to go to games then those are the people I'd rather prefer staying home. From my experience going to Dallas Stars games, even during the playoffs it took 10 minutes into the first period to finally get the lower bowl filled up with the remaining idiots that got tickets only to get drunk and stare at the ice girls. Great atmosphere... So thanks but no thanks.
