ben_usmc 253 Report post Posted January 28, 2009 Ken Daniels was on Home Ice today and made several excellent points on this topic. It is utter bulls*** how the league has handled this and they better make it right at some point. they can give us a few iffy calls in the SCF this year
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted January 28, 2009 Probably won't affect any status of potential awards one way or the other I think. It is just a one-game suspension and I think for the most part, generally speaking, the hockey world is on Lidstrom or Datsyuk's side, or at least the players overall/the players union. This includes both fellow players and the media I think. Sure, a lot of fans of other teams are probably thrilled that Lidstrom and Datsyuk are out because it is easy to dislike the Wings for consistently winning, but fans usually don't give out awards. GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted January 28, 2009 Right now many people seem ready to hand Chara the Norris trophy, so I don't know how this will change Lidstrom's chances. I doubt that it will, though.
BlueMonk 102 Report post Posted January 28, 2009 It won't affect them at all. It will be forgotten after tonight, when we have actual hockey games to talk about. The press is dying for storylines during the break.
Kira 451 Report post Posted January 28, 2009 First of all, the boys handled it with dignity and class...as we knew they would. As to whether this will hurt their chances, I don't think they really care. Their concern and their eyes are on the more important prize at the end - the Cup. That means more to them than individual awards. If Bettmutt has to give the Cup to Captain Nick and the Conn Smythe to Pasha, that will be the best revenge, and will mean more to them than individual awards ever could. Kira 451 Report post Posted January 28, 2009 (edited) The way it will be right and proper will be when Bettmutt has to hand the Cup to Captain Nick and the Conn Smythe to Pasha, smiling through his gritted teeth...and every fan in the Joe will be booing his sorry ass. It's only what he deserves. Then, and only then, will it be right and proper. Of course, if you really want to cement the procedure as right and proper, fire that little rat bastard and find someone else to be Commissioner. Say, Brendan Shanahan??? dat's sick 1,002 Report post Posted January 28, 2009 I hope it doesn't hurt their chances or their reputation. It doesn't feel good though that an underrated and often overlooked player like Datsyuk gets this kind of negative attention in a season where he is playing his best hockey ever, and should be a legitimate contender for the Hart trophy. Hopefully everyone will forget about this whole thing pretty soon.
Guest mindfly Report post Posted January 28, 2009 I really want Lidström to get a 7th maybe even 8th norris so he can be up there with Bobby Orr because they are as good... but it will be tough
Holmstrom96 347 Report post Posted January 28, 2009 I don't mind the suspensions, the rule makes sense, but the "Crosby Clause" does not. It's just another rule like "Interference" that seems to be selectively enforced against the Red Wings.
