DatsMyWings13 4 Report post Posted February 5, 2009 Between you and Drake_Marcus calling Filppula's contract as an "albatross of a contract", this place has some real intelligent posters. I'm glad you're all for free speech. People are entitled to their opinions. I'm sorry that I'm not one of those wings fans that think every player on our team is gold. Have you seen him play lately? Did you see him on that 3 on 1 where he got off a terrible shot last night? His contract as it stands is overpayment on a team that is right up against that cap and has many better players that need to be resigned. Your intelligence should be in question for defending a player who is clearly playing well below the contract he's being paid.
dat's sick 1,002 Report post Posted February 5, 2009 After watching last nights game, I say we need to try and keep Hossa over Franzen and Flip sucks and should be traded. I thought Flip had one of his best games of the season last night.. But if we have to let him go to keep Hossa I wouldn't be against it.

titanium2 867 Report post Posted February 5, 2009 got to love the yotes fans "I don't think you give enough credit to players and their memories. I remember very specifically after game 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals between Detroit and Pittsburgh where Gary Roberts blatantly pushed/punched Franzen in the head (it was his first game back from a concussion). Well, they asked Doan about it on the radio (Gambo and Ash perhaps) and I was expecting him to say Roberts was probably upset, and trying to set the tone for the next game or send a message that Pittsburgh wasn't going to take this lying down, but ultimately you don't want to see that sort of thing in the game. You know what he said? He said (I'm paraphrasing as this was a year ago) Detroit has a lot of guys who will cheapshot, facewash, run their mouths, and so on and so forth, but they don't drop the gloves, and when you have guys like Franzen who will be the first to dish out those sorts of cheapshots then they better expect to get them right back. Needless to say I thought that was awesome. But that's not my point here. The point is if a respected and pretty mild-mannered and honorable player like Shane Doan says that about Detroit, then you can rest assured it's true. Can I tell you specifically what Zetterberg did that warranted Jovo's crosscheck? I can't. Do I know it was necessarily a response to something that Zetterberg specifically did? I don't. But there's a general idea here that Detroit can be a cheap, dirty team, and obviously that frustrates the old school, actual tough players in the league like a Shane Doan, Gary Roberts, Jovo, etc. Guys like that are the heart and soul warriors that made this game so great, and nowadays you have a bunch of pansies who run their mouths and get away with facewashes, stickwork, etc. because they know they'll never have to be held accountable. Jovo's frustration was likely a direct response to that, and it sends a message that if Detroit thinks they can keep getting away with that nonsense that they might just have another thing coming." I'm not saying he's wrong but maybe I just need a reminder. Who exactly is he referring to? Maltby? The guy who plays less than 10 a game?
dat's sick 1,002 Report post Posted February 5, 2009 What about his game impressed you so much last night? Maybe it was Hossa's excellence that made him look good, but I thought that 2nd line worked really well. Flip got more involved offensively than he's been for much of the season, and he's just a great guy to have between two big, strong goalscorers like Franzen and Hossa. Flip got more involved offensively than he's been for much of the season, and he's just a great guy to have between two big, strong goalscorers like Franzen and Hossa. I feel like he was just along for the ride last night and when given the opportunity to score he did nothing. My question to you would be, do you think he is earning his salary this year? That's my main reason for saying he sucks (he doesn't really suck but for the salary he is getting paid he does) If he was only getting paid 1.5 or 2 Million a year I'd be happy with his role on the team. dat's sick 1,002 Report post Posted February 5, 2009 He hasn't played up to his salary or up to my expectations this season, but there are many others who I could say the same about. As I said, if we have to trade Val in order to keep Hossa.. by all means, do it. But Flip also has a lot of potential, and he fits into this team imo. Z and D for the C 712 Report post Posted February 5, 2009 Words are much more dirty than sucker-punching/cross checking players where they've had previous injuries. I'm not even sure what harm could coming from someone punching someone in the head who just had a severe concussion. Words are the ones that damage long term. I can believe that. I've played against teams that dont fight, but cheapshot and run there mouths to draw penalties, and would always score. It's a great strategy, not very admirable, but nonetheless gets wins. There's nothing proven, but even when you watch on TV after plays there saying stuff to the opposing players. It's hockey. Everyone does it, so this guy shouldnt be whining over it.
