Part of the problem with Crosby is the way the media has overexposed him. I think most fans (players too) are tired of hearing about him. It may not have been the league's intent, but I specifically watched the game yesterday because I wanted to see him lose and I think a lot of hockey fans (non-pens fans) watched for the same reason I did.

I love it when people come on here and defend the guy. 52 percent of the players polled by SI rated him as the biggest whiner in the game. However, I didn't think his actions from yesterday deserved anything more than adding to his legend of being a whiner. It seems to some that he feels a sense of entitlement and I think that irritates fans, and yet the media has made him the "face" of the nhl. Meanwhile, there are better players in the game (possibly even on his own team) that have proven they can make other players better. Crosby has never proven that. The article in SI this week pointed out that it's time he made his linemates better like other great players have done. Even Hossa's numbers as a Pen were the worst of his career, in terms of points per game.

Another thing is that it's becoming obvious that many teams are making it a point of being physical and chirping to him to throw him off his game. The Rangers did the same thing and it seems to work. He lets his emotions get the best of him and his game suffers. The more he responds and whines about it, the more teams will do it.

I think highly of Ovechkin, and don't really have an opinion of Crosby, but I don't think either of them handled it well. They don't seem much like men to me. Personally, I've been wishing lately that Ovechkin would tone it down a bit, in particular after his goal against Carey Price. You would think he had deked a row of can-can dancers the way he acted amazed with himself. And then the taunting of Crosby- the wave was funny, but beyond that I wish he would have just sat down.

Crosby acts like a ***** and cheaps shots other all the time when his team is losing because he can't handle it. You don't see datsyuk, zetterbeg, hossa, ovechkin doing these kinds of things. That is why no one likes him.

So essentially you believe who you believe. I find it odd that if Crosby fully intended to attack an unsuspecting McClean, he might have actually tried to throw at least 1 ******* punch seeing as he had McClean completed dominated. Did he do that, no, he looked like a guy ragdolling another guy. Ooohhhh, so vicious.

I get that people don't like Crosby, I never asked anybody to like him.

But the level of idiocy that stems from that hate is absurd. You saw the AO/Sid clip. Where exactly did either of those players really do anything noteworthy in that skirmish? It was nothing but 2 guys shoving each other. And yet we get all this Crosby cheap shot artist talk. And people aren't referring to past incidents. They were referring to this video clip. So tell me, where's the cheap shot? What exactly did Crosby do other than shove back at a guy who just shoved him?

Exactly. I didn't even have to see/read what happened to know I was on Oveckin's side. But seriously, these two going at it may be good for the sport in terms of coverage. I have been watching sportcenter for 15 minutes and already they have covered it twice. Amazing.

This isn't Rimouski in the "Q" anymore, son. Soon, somebody is going to show you that trying to be a star and an "enforcer" is not a good a good combination. And, we've already seen your "fighting" abilities. Yesterday's loss puts you 1 game closer to not making the playoffs, a reality that seems to be setting in.

There is no story, I understand that. But chastizing people for uttering the word Crosby any and all times just gets old. The people who don't like Sid will use this to bolster their dislike of him, as expected, so why the soapbox already? It's just a current event, nothing more...

The way this forum has been obsessed with everything Ovechkin does in the last 12 months is starting to get boring. Its obvious that the VAST majority of posters here hate Crosby and love Ovechkin, I just liked it better around here when it was letsgowings.com instead of letsgoovechkin.com.

I'm not looking for a fight - and if you're going to be rude, I see no reason to respond. All I'm saying is that Crosby makes a FAR better finesse player than he does a physical player. If he wants to drop the gloves and fight, somebody needs to teach him how first. And I'm not the only person who thinks that. There's been articles about it, as well.

For example, from Fox Sports:

"If you want to take out your frustrations on the opposition, fine. Just do it like a real hockey player. There's no reason to jump a guy on a faceoff and start flailing away before your man even has a chance to look up. Of course, Sid had a handy excuse ready to explain away his behavior, which netted him 19 minutes in penalties."

Defend him all you want, but he's not a physical player. And if you want to excuse his poor physical skills because of frustration, be my guest. But there's a way to fight someone - and he certainly doesn't do it.

Where I come from, flailing away means actually making a fist, rearing back and throwing punches. Since that didn't happen, I dunno how the "flailing away" part comes into play.

Followed immediately by thread on LGW of "Crosby loses his mind, drops gloves, takes 2 minute unsporsmanliike penalty, costs Pens game, can't handle pressure, can't handle frustration, yadda, yadda."

I guess instead of rag dolling McClean, Sid could've gone a step further and just pounded on him, throwing punch after punch while McClean was down. Yeah, I guess that would've been the better thing to do there.

While I also don't agree that Crosby was "flailing away" at McLean - he certainly jumped him before McLean had a chance to know what was going on.

I didn't watch the clip in this thread. I have no reason to. I don't think Crosby is a bad player. I think he's incredibly talented - I just think he's a better finesse than he is a physical player. If he WANTS to be a physical player, then he should be taught how.

Yes, his fighting technique was worse, and it was posted on here and a lot of us got a laugh out of it. The difference is that both players seemed to be aware that a fight was taking place.

Not all of us are as regular as you, and when something comes up that interests them (crosby is a good example i think), they come to the boards and talk about it. After a 8 month hiatus, I feel this is the best post to start things up again for me.

AO did the thing for one reason only. The fans. He loves them and will do everything he can to make whatever it is he does worth the price of admission. AO is better than Crosby, and Crosby is ,yes, frustrated because before coming to the NHL people told him he was the best. He is used to winning and being the best. Its tough for Crosby to be respected by the fans, which started with his attempt of a playoff beard and has stemmed all the way here.

The main difference is this : Crosby cares about being the best and wants his name to flood the hockey market. AO probably cares less and just wants to play awesome hockey. This is evident from last post season. When the Caps got knocked off by the Flyers, AO went out on the ice an applauded the fans for their support. Sid the Kid just sat and cried. Yeah I know coming that close to winning and end up losing is heartbreaking, but he should have done the same, considering how loyal his fans are. He is the reason why the Mellon Arena sells out.

As far as that squable, AO gave a love tap because he knew what Sid would do. I think it was great that he called him out in a way and they talked some smack. March 8th will be a great game to watch when the Pens return to DC for their last meeting of the regular season.

So because some people want to discuss on a Crosby and Ovechkin argument, they are dumb s***s? Who are you to decide intelligence? I'll admit that some people aren't logical in what they post. But just because we comment about Crosby does not automatically make us stupid. Here is why:

1. We have not played in a game since Saturday, and there is no game until Wendesday. Therefore, we have no recent or upcomming game to analyze. There are much fewer things to talk about than if it was the day after or before a game. We can go back to goaltending if you like...

2. The title of this forum is "General Discussion" which means we can talk about anything in general.

3. Just because we like to talk about the other 29 NHL teams does not mean the Red Wings are not our first team. Again, this is for hockey discussion. And compared to anything else that has happened lately, this is the most exciting.

4. And I'm sorry, but who are you to decide the intelligence of the people on this forum? Again, I will say that some people post without logic. But this is a discussion forum, not school or work. Because people make posts that annoy you does not mean that they are dumb or intellecutally inferior to you. You make posts that annoy me, but you are probably still smart. And I know I don't speak for everyone on this, but I have a spectacular gpa at a great universiy, and so far this semester (about half way through) I currently have a 4.0. And guess what? I hate Crosby!!! But I'm still smart.
