Great Nabokov Interview

Puck Daddy, it's too long to post in here so here's the link:

http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puck_dadd...?urn=nhl,150658

A few highlights:

Q:Did you really try and kick Corey Perry, like he claims, when you played the Anaheim Ducks?

A: Yeah, right... He is... You know in America this is called ‘a crybaby' and he is exactly that.

Q: Rank these Russian players at their best: Pavel Bure, Sergei Fedorov, Alexander Mogilny, Alexander Ovechkin.

A: When they were all in their prime? Fedorov. Mogilny. Ovechkin. Bure.

Q: Did you happen to see Ovechkin's goal celebration for his 50th goal? What would you do if something similar was happening behind your net?

A: Yes, I did see it. [With a smile] I personally didn’t like it. I would just catch a puck, give it or show it to him…

I just think it was a little bit too much, especially for a player like him. It was just a little disrespectful to others. But Alex doesn't care about all these opinions, and I understand him. He loves it, fans love it. So, why not? We are here to entertain fans. Some like it, some don't. But it is a personal opinion. That's why I gave my personal opinion because I was asked. I don't think there is anything wrong with that.

Nice, reasonable stance there, Nabby.

By far the most interesting, though, is this next one:

Of the NHL's "big three" right now, how would you rank them based on overall play: Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Alexander Ovechkin? What if we added Pavel Datsyuk to the mix?

To be honest, Datsyuk would be my No. 1. So it would be Datsyuk, Malkin, Ovechkin, Crosby

Neverminding the possible nationalism (I put them all ahead of Crosby, too), it's interesting to see he puts Dats at #1, echoing what many of us think.

I highly recommend reading the whole article; it's long, and has tons of material.

Great article. I was grinning. I don't know why, but I've always liked him.

I tend to like the straightforwardness and honesty (or is it lack of political correctness?) of the Russian and other eastern european players in general.

It's their way of showing toughness! Honesty in the media, not prepared answers. Take that Cherry!

Lets sign him!

Please don't! As an avid Sharks fan, and Wings Respecter, I'd kind of like to see Nabby stay with us in net just a bit longer.

Of course now, if we're talking about a trade, then let's talk. Let's get Datsyuk and/or Zetterberg on the table. I think either or both of them would look great in Teal, personally. It wouldn't be the end of the world. Think of it, we got Joe Thornton in a nice little trade from Boston, and they eventually recovered. They're now number 3 behind our two teams this year.

So, waddya think. Deal? Shake?

:::: shaking at the thought of losing Nabby ::::

Another great puckdaddy interview.

Really interesting to see that despite his honest dislike of the Wings, he still rates Datsyuk as the best player in the league. Comments like that give me hope that Pavel will win the Lester B Pearson he so thoroughly deserves.

Dunno if he'll get the Pearson, but the goalie votes will probably be unanimous for Dats XD

Indeed. Despite not getting any goals or points last night, Dats was yet again the best player on the ice, consistently, offensively and defensively, and Nabokov's recognition is sadly something that's gone underreported in the mainstream media. I guess they're tired of great stories coming out of Detroit, or afraid fans will call it bias if they show any favor toward showing stuff like this, so sadly must get our stuff from independent sources.
