Husker BigGuy 0 Report post Posted March 28, 2009 I think we are 2 for the last 25. Something like that. Just when the PK picks up, the PP falls apart. I know we had about 6 off the iron last night, but 0-6 on the PP? Has that happened before?

TheOwl 77 Report post Posted March 28, 2009 If you think about it, the Islanders don't have a lot to play for. A game versus the defending champs is basically the biggest game they have in a season. They brought their A-game, combined with a lot of luck (goal posts etc), they won. To them, if theirs any game worth winning, it's against Detroit. And that goes for a lot of teams. Red Crazy 201 Report post Posted March 29, 2009 I don't think that there is much wrong with the PP. Maybe a couple of small changes but I think that the real problem is the teams lack of effort as of late. I am not sure when the last game was that they played a full 60 min. Makes me wonder at times if all the UFA talk is starting to effect the team. Nobody knows who will be apart of the team next year. Could this be it???? I have a hard time believing that they are simply not playing because they can and still make the playoffs and they are just going to flick the switch and play hockey again come playoff time. What ever it is please fix it Babs.
XxGoWingsxX 0 Report post Posted March 29, 2009 What happened to the powerplay? More like what happened to the offense? For about 4 games now, they just seem to be doing everything BUT scoring. I saw wayyy to many times where a guy with the puck, instead of getting it at the net...made too many passes. They played with the puck too much, and didnt just take it to the net. I saw guys on the PP have a clear lane to the net with a screen in front and instead of shooting they'd hesitate and that lane was blocked so they passed...rinse, repeat. I realize we've been getting alot of shots but they're just trying to get too cute with the plays...what ever happened to taking it to the net?
CenterIce 83 Report post Posted March 29, 2009 (edited) Hossa is on the second line power play. thats the problem. To me, that is a positive. If your first powerplay is Datsyuk, Zetterberg, and Holmstrom, and you can put Hossa on the second powerplay with Franzen that is awesome. To the point of the thread, this is why you need to concentrate on playing well defensivley, so that if you go on a scoring drought, you can at least keep the other teams totals low. Hopefully, you can then score one or two to win. Edited March 29, 2009 by CenterIce
GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted March 29, 2009 Osgood is to blame for it singlehandedly. He needs to make better passes after the other team clears the puck to our end of the rink.
Husker BigGuy 0 Report post Posted March 29, 2009 We were far and away the PP leader, and now are in danger of slipping under 25%, after dismal PP performances for at least 5 games. Maybe the team can just turn it back on, but that's not how it usually works. I saw a bit of desperation in the 3rd period last night. Not a happy feeling watching. Every team good/bad is going to have their dry spells on the power play at some point in an extremely long season. It happens. Alot of teams only has one real pp-unit and try using it the whole powerplay... or like ovechkin in capitals, use him all the time, whats wrong with datsyuk, hossa, zetterberg, rafalski, lidström in the pp-unit and play them all the time, if they play like they should they should be able to play 2min of pp, no doubt.. 2nd pp unit is awful except franzen and hossa... samuelsson is a joke to say the least. lets go pavel 2 Report post Posted March 29, 2009 Aaron Downey makes the power play better! Seriously, it's fine. It cracks me up when every time the PP hits a dry spell everyone thinks "they've figured out our PP, time to change it up". Figured what out? We've been running basically the same PP for years, I'm pretty sure the other teams have "figured it out" long before now. It's not the element of surprise that makes our PP good, it's the skilled players we put on the ice and the effectiveness of how those players work the PP together. Just like pretty much everything else in the game of hockey, a team's power play goes through hot streaks and dry spells. It's nothing to worry about. Guest mindfly Report post Posted March 29, 2009 (edited) Still wanna see Ericsson at the point instead of samuelsson, lets ignore the right-handed-shooter-is-a-must for once, they have that in the 1st pp unit, a 100mph slapshot is worth alot more than samuelssons useless shot and passing ability. I have never liked forwards at the point. There have been a few exceptions, like Yzerman, Fedorov, or Sakic. Usually, the foward has a hard time getting back and knowing what to do.
