NHL Mock Draft 2009

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

NHL.com has a feature where they took 3 folks and they each ran a mock draft of the first round.

http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=415494

They all picked different players for the Wings.

Does anyone know of these 3 possible prospects?

Adam Kimelman says Dylan Olsen, D, Camrose (AJHL)

Brad Holland says Chris Kreider, C, Phillips-Andover Academy (HS-Mass.)

Shawn P Roarke says Carl Klingberg, F, Frolunda Jr. (Sweden)

The first link in each line is to the "expert's" picks. The second link in each line (if available) is the hockeydb.com profile for that player.

Sadly, no one thinks Tavares will be around for pick #29. ;) ;)

Have the Wings ever drafted anyone out of high school before?

I don't follow prospects and such, so I have no idea who they would pick, but for those of you that do follow such things - who do YOU think they'll pick and why?

Abdelkader came out of MSU.

They drafted him in 2005, which was the year he graduated high school. Any scouting reports they had on him came from his play for the Cedar Rapids Rough Riders of the USHL.

It's tough because whoever they draft this year won't likely don a Wings jersey for another 5-7 years if they're lucky enough. But have it Jimmy Nill and Hakan!

I've seen Olsen once. He was OK, but . . . I think there's better out there projected for the high second round. I'd like to see them get a D with better size to replace Stuart/Lilja in 3-4 years.

Magnus Paajarvi-Svensson, F, Timra (Sweden)

"He may be small, but Lightning have had pretty good luck with Martin St. Louis."

6'1 200lbs is not small for a 17 year old...

If he cleans up his defensive game (which ive heard he has been doing), than Kindl could be the answer to the need for an offensive defenseman.

edit : just looked at his stats for Grand Rapids. Hasnt had the best year, 32 pts in 77 games, and is a -14 which shows his defensive game needs work.

And not a bad player either.
