Awesome work. Thanks for the time and effort

No problem! I'm willing to do this for the next playoff rounds too. If you don't mind asking, I'd be nice if someone could suggest to Matt that this would make a good subject to pin at the top with the other Round 1 stuff.

I'd like to do this up in graphics using the same method as Aflac used to, but I'm not sure how he did it (assuming it wasn't just a ton of brute work in photoshop).

I just don't put much faith in these numbers because the BJ's don't have any experience up in the real game. All bets are off, and I really didn't want to be the team that had to deal with the wild card that is Columbus.

Good stuff though.

Thanks a lot Drake! I'll be staring at these numbers for a good while :P

Glad to see this thread stickied!

Thanks :) Matt was very generous to sticky this thread for me. I'm glad I can help.

Holy cowberries. Major props, Drake. I know it's been said about 1,000,000,000 times (maybe some more zeros and commas thrown in there), but thanks a whole heck of a lot. :)

You're very welcome.

Not to pee in anyone's Cheerios, but even though the Wings only let in 4 SH goals all season, fully half of them were scored by Rick Nash.

He is the linchpin for the whole series for CBJ. How he performs is how the team goes.

I expect Nash to play better, but I also expect Hank and Pav to play better and I think they will be able to slow his production.

I expect Babcock has figured this out.

I think we can accept the Wings have "another level" of play inside of them. We saw it in the playoffs the past two years and we had glimpses of it during the regular season. I'll be curious how much more a team like Columbus, who has busting their ass all season to make the playoffs, will have left in the tank.

Not sure if it has been posted here, but Osgood's stats for the last month of the season are virtually identical to Mason's. Hopefully that trend continues (Osgood improving and Mason coming back down to earth).

Yeah, I found that all these stats definitely support the general feelings most of us have had this season- that the Wings struggle to lock up games but they can 'turn it on' and come back almost at will.

I found the blocked shot total very frustrating too. I really, really wish we retained Markov after the 06-07 season. If we had Markov, Lilja, Stuart and Ericsson on the back end we wouldn't be so vulnerable to injuries. As it stands now the loss of Lilja really impacts this team's ability to hit and block shots effectively. Having another big guy that does that (Markov) in the line up would do away with the Lebda and Meech type players. Of course we'd still have 8 D-men in that scenario, but I think we could realistically dump Chelios and whichever of Lilja, Stuart, Markov wasn't doing the job. Ericsson looks great on the third pairing and will quickly mature into a 2nd and eventually, a 1st pairing player, so we really don't need to keep Meech and Lebda around. Still a log-jam back there, but at least it's a gritty log jam :P

yeah, i actually liked markov quite a bit as well. i think i remember him wanting WAY too much money, so it was probably best not to re-sign him. i agree that lilja's absence means we're taking a hit on blocked shots...hopefully we'll be possessing the puck enough that we won't need to block too many...we definitely need a few clutch shot blocks in the playoffs that haven't been there during the regular season (e.g. opposing powerplay late in a close game).

when the season's over i expect a full workup like this for the playoffs as well. ;)

I think Ericsson will fill that role fairly well. In reality he's more of a Lidstrom type player that uses position and his stick to deny opportunities, but based on what the Wings need right now with Lilja out I think we'll see him play more of that blocking, hitting style.

Will do :)

You have to compare it to something :P

What was Mason's? Something like .89 or something SV%, 4 GA?

Good point:

Chris Osgood: 1-0-0, 95.3% Save Percentage, 1 GA

Steve Mason: 0-1-0, 88.2% Save Percentage, 4 GA

Wings PK: 0-5/07:55 // 100% Success Rate

Wings PP: 1-4/04:16 // 25% Success Rate

Jackets PK: 1-4/04:16 // 75% Success Rate

Jackets PP: 0-5/07:55 // 0% Success Rate

Wings FO: 57%

Jackets FO: 43%

Stand outs:

Brad Stewart: 5 Blocked Shots

Pavel Datsyuk: 6 Hits (and a 74% on face offs)

Hudler-Filppula-Samuelsson Line: 1 Goals, 5 Assists, 9 Shots

Franzen: 1 G, 1 A, 2 pts, +0

Hudler: 1 G, 1 A, 2 pts, +2

Ericsson: 1 GWG, 2 Hits, 1 Blocked Shot, 15:46 TOI, first playoff game ever

Edit: Added some stats
