lOff-topic: does that ad that shows up with the girl with pizza in braces gross anyone else out? it bothers me

Yes. Nasty.

I hate these threads. Regardless of how inevitable it looks, its the epitome of counting chickens before they're hatched.

but in the end is this thread really gonna make the BJs play better? I hate superstitions

Me too. The Wings will lose or win based on their desire and effort, not because I pour a cup of sugar down my pants before every game.

Well, this year is going to be a rematch with the Penguins, next year it'll be Boston, then in '10-'11 it'll be Washington. Next question.

I don't agree that superstitions change the outcome of the game either, but I also don't like to plan a party before the guest list is finalized.

This!

I'll worry about next round once this one is finished and not before then.

Good practice, although I'm quite certain that the Wings crashed the party last season, after all San Jose was the better team.

Only two other teams have come back from an 0-3 deficit to win a series and the '09 Blue Jackets aren't the '42 Leafs or '75 Islanders. Still, I hope the Wings close out this series quickly so they get a week of downtime to rest up.

'42 Leafs did it against the Wings :innocent:

As much as I believe the Wings can win thursday, I don't like to look past the next game.

According to who? Detroit finished with the most points, had the most depth, was healthy and had the added incentive of the bitter finish of the year before.

How exactly was San Jose the better team?

When you're up 3-0, the question is "when", and not "if" you're going to advance.

The OP did the right thing in starting this thread. At this point there's nothing wrong with looking ahead to who we're eventually going to face.

If we don't win the series, LGW will be the busiest it's ever been in its history for the next couple of months, thus we'll have other threads to worry about way worse than this.

Anyway, people need to get off the OP's case.

I'd be okay with that. I look forward to the Penguins becoming the Buffalo Bills of the 90's. Always a bridesmaid, never a bride. Fitting for Sidney, don't you think?

The real question is, when the Penguins lose this years Stanley Cup to the Wings, who from their team do we get this time?

I agree, there have been only two teams in the history of the NHL to come back from being down 3-0 in a series, and I don’t think that Columbus is remotely close to either of them. The worst that will happen is we lose on Thursday, and that’s even hard to fathom the way the wings have been playing and that they believe that there is still room for improvement. We’ve go this series right were we want it, its just a matter of time.

Because they added Brian Campbell, the best acquisition at the trade deadline, and were much hotter going into the last few weeks of the season. A lot of people outside of LGW were expecting good things from the Sharks.

Those expectations were no different than they were in years past. Typical strong regular season Sharks team that can't finish the job once the playoffs begin. They still had Ron Wilson who continues to struggle to win the big game and no one on their roster was considered a post-season threat.

On top of that, they weren't any "hotter" than the Wings heading into the postseason. They both were playing great, and actually finished with matching 7-2-1 records in their final 10 games.

Just because a couple media "experts" picked them to win the Cup last year certainly does not mean they were the better team. They weren't.

Oh you know, they're built for the playoffs and all that.

Why do you do that? Don't you have problems with ants?

No, I don't have problems with ants. Especially not on Earth day, where we celebrate our Mother Earth Goddess' birthday by reminding her how capable we are of destroying her. :hippie:

I will admit that I'm nervous about the Wings relaxing at all in the 4th game. That would indeed be an insult to how they've played so far.

TBH, I'm not too concerned about it with this core group. The Wings have certainly done that in the past, but this team is too experienced and is playing to disciplined to piss away a game like this. Don't get me wrong, I assume the BJ's will look to come out firing and if they're able to get the early lead this could end up being a tight game, but I'm not concerned about this current team relaxing.

i love the optimism in this thread but this should be locked until the red wings finish the job! hockey is a funny sport and a closing game is just as important as an opening

Yes, call me superstitious but there is way too much cockiness around here lately. I won't rest easy this round until the final buzzer sounds.

Likes pie.

But here's what it boils down to, assuming Detroit wins, here's how it goes:

San Jose beats Anaheim: We get Vancouver in the second round

Anaheim beats San Jose: We get Anaheim in the second round

I don't know if we can beat Vancouver in the second round, their too confident and playing better then they should be. If Osgood and friends could crack rookie Mason, Hiller shouldn't be too much tougher.

I would rather verse Vancouver than Anaheim easily. Especially because the prerequisite for versing Anaheim is that they beat the Sharks. I'm confident that the Wings can take both teams out in a series, but I would rather verse the likes of Anaheim, Calgary, and San Jose in the 3rd round, ideally when they're beaten down and worn out, instead of in the 2nd round, when they can beat the Wings down and wear them out.

we have to finish CBJ first. This is the play-offs hockey and there is always a chance that the next opponent will be Tiger Woods.

QFT. I understand the desire to look ahead and call the sweep and all that jazz, but we've only played 3 games and you need to win 4 to move on.

Don't count your chickens before they hatch.

Actually its down to Anaheim or Vancouver. That's it. Give me the Ducks every day of the week

And people were asking if I was sarcastic when I started the "Vancouver Sweeps St. Louis" Thread.

I think I know why, some just don't understand how the reseeding works! :scared:

We could always re-start this thread after the Wings finish off the Blue Jackets, prior to the other first round series finishing, so that we have something to talk about, but I don't believe that I or anyone else can "jinx" the Wings. I'm not superstitious, but I am realistic -- what happens with the Wings comes down to the the guys on the ice as to when (not if) they will finish off the CBJs. Me and the OP discussing who the Wings might theoretically face next is just passing the time until it actually happens. I may not be superstitious, but I do have faith.
