You seem offended that someone can disagree with your opinion. Maybe some thicker skin and some more substance to your posts. Just my opinion.

Really, cause I feel the same way about you.

For the third time I'm happy to agree to disagree.

Not everyone has to share my opinion and I don't feel that not sharing my opinion makes someone a whiner or retard.

You have a wonderful knack for overlooking substance in posts and not just with mine.

Interesting, which substance did I overlook? Last I checked I've been right on top of every point you've tried to make and how unrealistic and overimaginative it is. But since you made the claim I'm sure you can enlighten me. :thumbup:

VS=OLN=Outdoor life network.

Hockey (apart from 1 game on new years) is entirely indoors. They bought the rights... NHL got money they are happy (cause in the end its all about the benjamins) and now they don't have to show a damn thing if they dont want to.

Easy solution, stop selling the sole rights of playoff games to networks such as NBC, Versus, etc., and put ALL the games on Center Ice. This way, the people who pay extra can see whatever game they want wherever they are. Done. NBC and Versus can still buy limited rights to games ("limited" because the games will still be on Center Ice). That way NBC/VS can still show games and sell advertising but "real" ( :P ) fans can still go get the game they want wherever they are through Center Ice. Win Win.

PS - AND GET RID OF BLACKOUTS TOO!!!!!!!!!

The thing is, especially for joined-in-progress games like tomorrow's Carolina/Boston game, they still have announcers for that game even though Versus will not air the game (assuming the Wings/Ducks game doesn't go into OT or beyond) until in the 3rd period. To agree with you, it makes no sense that it isn't available via Center Ice, and it eliminates Carolina and Boston fans, as well as those who want to see that series, but that's just the way it is. I just don't get why Versus would alienate fans and not bargain with Center Ice.

Another thing is some games are also available through the local/regional networks, like FSN/Comcrap/NESN/etc. via Center Ice. Ever since they threw in the local/regional feeds via Center Ice (which may have to do with that sole rights they keep selling), it's f***ed a lot of things up. They used to just air TSN/CBC games instead for the first rounds of the postseason that didn't end up on national TV, for Center Ice subs, and now that's vanished (TSN entirely, and I've seen ONE CBC game in the playoffs).

Yep, the vehicle out of this mess is already there, Center Ice. What f***s it up is the sole "rights" issue and blackouts. Most casual fans don't have Center Ice so they would still have the desire to watch NBC/Versus and therefore still enable the "limited" rights idea to have value for the networks. Plus, isn't the NHL making money off of the Center Ice packages they sell around the country? At least enough to offset some of the money they might lose in the "exclusive" vs "limited" rights idea?

The old business model needs a little tweakin' Bettman!

The revenue from Center Ice doesn't really go to the NHL, at least directly. What I mean is, for Center Ice on Dish/DirecTV/Comcast/Charter, <= these providers negotiate with regional networks (FSN/Comcast/etc), national networks (NBC/Versus), and Canadian national networks (TSN/CBC/Rogers) to be able to use their signal. This is also why Center Ice Online (a whole different source) has so much trouble with many regional/national networks, because their negotiations don't seem to be as effective, and why their blackouts are worse than cable or satellite blackouts. So the more immediate revenue comes to either Dish, DirecTV, Comcast, and so on. Their negotiations with the networks means they pay the networks. The networks pay the NHL for broadcasting rights. In this case, obviously no Center Ice is getting any leeway on NBC or Versus, which used to be different before Versus/NBC's stint.

Furthermore on the blackout issue, it's also teams individually that decide what to blackout. I've seen Sharks games that normally were scheduled on CSN-BayArea, disappear off that channel and appear on Versus. Which tells me that the Sharks decided to allow Versus broadcast rights for that game. And in a rare, miracle-like case, I was allowed to see another broadcast of a Sharks game because the Sharks decided to allow that, since CSN-BayArea just wanted to stick with SF Giants / Warriors feeds.

It isn't really that cut-and-dry, but regarding Center Ice and these broadcast issues, for the most part the problem goes squarely on Versus/NBC who CAN allow Center Ice to broadcast, but won't in any case. So that's why I suggested either in this topic or another like it for people to write/call their satellite provider to negotiate with the networks like TSN since TSN obviously airs a s***load of games.
