Also, Jonathan Ericsson is going to be an elite NHL defenseman. He has been scary good and his fight with Perry last night cemented his status. Awesome stuff.

Big E was the unofficial No. 2 Star last night, in my view.

Sole reason: forcefully putting that little ***** Perry in his place. I loved the way the expression on Perry's face changed once he realized that Ericsson was all too happy to oblige. Perry starts off, as usual, with his cheap, post-whistle jab while hiding behind the ref. As soon as Ericsson clocks him and basically says "You're on, punk," Perry's look immediately becomes one of fear, and you can tell he's hanging on for dear life from that point forward.

Great stuff -- especially the way the CBC guys were all over this very point when one of them said that the Wings "will not be intimidated!" Only thing better would have been if he had done some real damage to Perry - i.e., broken nose or something. On second thought, I guess that's not likely since Perry pulls that BS while hiding behind a visor.

Yeah, it was a sweet little sequence.

And of course you won't see the clip on coach's corner because the canadian is wearing the visor and the "soft euro" is pounding him. I hate the double standard. Come on Don Cherry show the clip, whats the matter?

Ha! Great point, and so true.

It also would be nice to see Hrudey or one of the other CBC types call out Perry for just standing there with his thumb in his orifice while Lids steps up and bangs home the GWG. I won't hold my breath, however.

I'm wondering if Nick's effort last night isn't enough to propel him to the Norris again. I know it's a regular-season award and Mike Green probably deserves it, but he's gone missing during the playoffs and I think last night will resound in voters minds when the time comes. He'll get some consideration based on name recognition alone, but I can't help thinking that last night's effort might have subconsciously earned him some votes.

This is why voting is done before the playoffs -- so the post-season has no effect on the voters.

Regarding the Hudler hit, let's say that the hit was from Brown's shoulder into Hudler's head. Would that still be illegal, since it's a hit to the head, even if the check is a shoulder hit?

Yes. 1. It was late. 2. The league passed out a memo regarding blows to the head. It's not technically in the books, but the league is after it (at the urging of the NHLPA).
