titanium2 867 Report post Posted May 1, 2009 Thing is, a cap hit under 6 million isn't that out of reach, imo. It's not just about what a player would receive in the open market-It's also about how worthy is a player to the Red Wings organization. In fact, negotiations may be moreso about the latter than the former. After Lidstrom retires, Datsyuk sets the new cap ceiling. Zetterberg took a cap hit of 6.08. He plays center and wing and one of more prominent players on the Red Wings in terms of individuals who set the example of determination and work ethic. He is also the one who is most likely to wear the C after Nick. Considering that, is Hossa worth more to the organization than Z? Probably not. I think a clever idea would be to have Hossa take the average cap hit of Pav, Z and Mule. 6.7 + 6.08 + 3.955 / 3 = 5.
Inultus 12 Report post Posted May 1, 2009 Where's that new poster that started the thread about getting rid of Hossa because he doesn't have chemistry with the team? :battle:
Guest Four Report post Posted May 1, 2009 Wherever Hossa goes next year, I wish him luck. He's been amazing and we'll all miss him if the cap doesn't work out.
NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted May 1, 2009 We need Hossa. Last season proved the Wings don't *need* Hossa, but it sure as hell is great to have him.
puertoricanWingsfan 5 Report post Posted May 2, 2009 It's like I always say: the power of the Red Wings offense is that everyone works within a system. Everyone plays a specific role, and work together as a unit. it's not a team led by one superstar. Hossa has been awesome within the system, showing the kind of player he is. Love him
Kwame_Kilpatrick 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2009 u cant count on your fingers how clutch hossa has been with us even after only 1 seasons of goals. there was minnesota with 1 minute left, beautiful shot. scored the goal against nabokov and broke the flood gates, came back after only about a week after that injury and was good as new. he hasnt had a point per game this year but i think he has been playing injured for much of the year. he is just a good guy and it is always cool to have a slovakian guy (except kopecky) on your team and he is always helping out his teammates, everyone likes him. hopefully it does not hurt pav and zeta's friendship tho they r like brothers they have better chemistry than the sedin bros

And if they do, they belong in a high school reality drama. Ultimately the Red Wings (especially Pav & Z) know that Hossa does nothing but HELP the team. The thing I do wonder these days is what if Datsyuk was just now coming up on a new contract? Think he would still take that low of a hit knowing he'd be a Hart finalist? As it was mentioned, these guys know the ultimate sacrifice of winning and that's what's beautiful about all these guys we find. None of them (with the exception of the Russian who got into the car crash, can't think of his name?) are the primadonna types. I would gladly keep Z, Mule, Dats (and even Hossa if we can get him signed) over an Ovie or Crosby at their cap-hit. I said a long time ago that Hossa would retire a Red Wings. Truthfully it was wishful thinking at the time and it still is. I just pray that we can keep a class act like this guy around our organization.
