Broken 16 381 Report post Posted May 8, 2009 He had him for half a season. I know he lives in his house, but it's different. Having Mario for 2-3 years talking to him every shift, in the lockeroom, showing him how to present himself etc. would've helped Sid a ton. Being humbled by failure is a longer road, but he'll get there someday.
jollymania 162 Report post Posted May 8, 2009 Cuz everytime Crosby sneezes you guys ***** about it? Wouldn't have done it in the first place? What the f*** are you talking about. No need to constantly have a double standard against Crosby... it has gone waaaaaaaaay too far. quit whining
Guest Shoreline Report post Posted May 8, 2009 How dare you sir. 100000000000 Dollars there is a mention of a certain someone who was cut from the 1987 Canada Cup team being such a better leader. Actually, he was both a better leader and mentor. Not to take anything away from Mario, but there has never been a better leader and role model for another succeeding captain than The Captain. He had him for half a season. I know he lives in his house, but it's different. Having Mario for 2-3 years talking to him every shift, in the lockeroom, showing him how to present himself etc. would've helped Sid a ton. Where did you get this arbitrary number of 2-3 years? Keep in mind that Lemieux more than likely didn't start placing his mark on Crosby until the unfortunate regular season which was cut short. Crosby is actually a great leader, but obviously has a reputation for whining, which I recall some great all-time leaders were noted for early in their careers as well, like.. one with the highest amount of points/goals/assists in NHL history. thedisappearer 291 Report post Posted May 8, 2009 Alright, lets see an example. I have no examples of Lids carrying on like Crosby. At All. Ever.
Jake Ryan 1 Report post Posted May 8, 2009 Huh? Are you really comparing the discourse Lidstrom has with the officials with the discourse Crosby has with the officials? 'Cause there's really no comparison besides both use words to communicate with the refs. The tone, demeanor, body language, intensity, and frequency are COMPLETE opposites. This post is spot on. Crosby = whining *****. Lidstrom = captain. Night and Day difference. When's the last time you've seen Lidstrom lose his temper? Or even snarl at a ref? The guy is cool as ice. Crosby is veruca salt in a number 87 pittsburgh jersey.

Any example of comparison showing that Crosby regularly whines to the officiating in a very different tone than Nicklas Lidstrom. You misunderstood what I asked. thedisappearer 291 Report post Posted May 8, 2009 (edited) Any example of comparison showing that Crosby regularly whines to the officiating in a very different tone than Nicklas Lidstrom. You misunderstood what I asked. No, I was being intentionally obtuse. [snide] Can you show me an instance of Jaromir Jagr, of all the people, ever telling Lidstrom on the ice to shut up, stop whining, and play the damn game? Don't worry, I'll wait. [/snide] Seriously though, if you want to *actually* debate the tone with which Lids interacts with the officials and attempt to claim it is even remotely similar to how Crosby conducts himself with the officials, I'll just stop now. You are entitled to an opinion, no matter how fundamentally flawed it is. For the record, Crosby is an insane, once-in-a-generation talent. *ETA* Also, Crosby gets more flak then he deserves for his behavior. But when over half of your peers think you are the "best" at something, well, I think it's a safe bet that you are. You are entitled to an opinion, no matter how fundamentally flawed it is. My main gripe is that Crosby seems to get a reputation for whining because he goes to the officials at such a young age. He is a captain and that is his job. I've never seen him go to the officials with a "omg you so stupid" attitude in the last couple of years, but feel free to correct me. That is what I'm asking for. I agree to an extent. I would never said he goes to them with a "you so stupid" minset. I would say, however, he is prone to a sense of entitlement like no player has in this league. *Because* he's so young, he takes this abuse. And while I've seen him tamper off with it, he is still prone to almost tantrums on the ice. My god, his rookie year, I wanted to slap the taste outta his mouth. I'm not about to say the guy acts older than his age. That isn't the case. When his team was just down 3-1 in the series last final he went after Zetterberg for no reason at all. That was unbecoming of a captain. However he is very young and he will learn how to be mature like Lidstrom and Yzerman were. I haven't seen anything that makes him "whiny" in comparison to players his age however. Of course we don't get hardly as many quotes from anyone else, and no one in the league (Toews is an exception) has the responsibility that Crosby has. The pressure isn't from him. It's from the Pens org and the league, and frankly, it's unfair and i believe slowing his development. If he didn't have to worry about this BS, I can't imagine what numbers he'd be putting up. I think Malkin is a good example of this.

I don't know about whining exactly, but when I was at the Pens/Wings game earlier this season Sidney was pretty much stalking the officials the entire night. After every whistle while on the ice, from the bench, after the first and second peroid, after the third before the game went to OT. It was crazy. I was paying particular attention to him because hell he is Sidney who is no doubt one of the best players in the league and it was my first time seeing him live. I've been to over 70 NHL games over the years and never ever seen another player do this. Maybe it was some kind of off night, but between seeing that live and watching him on TV I can't help but to think of him a a complainer. Lets not get it mixed up. He is without a doubt a fantastic player and from all I've ever seen a truly good guy off the ice. The dude just complains alot.

NHL Refs are so consisently inconsisent that I really don't give a s*** if he asks for clarification on calls and I don't know what people think "Whining" is exactly but its not like a official is going to bend a call for fear of Sidney Crosby telling him he made a s*** call. Get ******* real. there is a youtube video of a red telling Peter Forsberg to shut the f*** up.
Ms_Hockey 0 Report post Posted May 9, 2009 Holy cow, people. When you have to merge threads about Crosby being a whiner.. that's when you know you've been talking about it WAY too much. You don't have to like Crosby. Hell, I can't stand him.. even though he's a great player. But arguing for fourteen pages over whether he's a crybaby or not? He's the Pens' captain. It's his job to cry to the refs. While I agree that some of the things he says to the media would be better kept to his teammates in the locker room.. I think we're all going way overboard with this anti-Crosby thing. You don't like him. We get it. Now give it up.

thedisappearer 291 Report post Posted May 9, 2009 Until the league stops marketing Crosby as THE SAVIOR and embraces the other talented players in the league... until the Pens don't get preference in marketing over other teams... until he handles himself with a level of professionalism (that in all fairness is a standard set higher than other captains for the first two reasons)... he's gonna be hated on every hockey board except for Pens boards. Get over. The league bricked this. However, Crosby has done little to ebb the flow.

So your opinion is Sidney Crosby is a whiner because he talks to the refs on bad calls or other things it is pointless because they won't change their mind? I didn't know you thought every captain in the NHL was a whiner. Cub: That is too bad, but it does show that Crosby is young and isn't exactly an "expert" in how to be a captain. The guy will learn.
