wmubronco420 25 Report post Posted May 6, 2009 even in football when a play isnt reviewable the refs will discuss it between themselves sand make a decision to pick up the flag or call the penalty. the NHL needs to adopt this so somebody who was actually in good position to make the call couldve made the right call. dat's sick 1,002 Report post Posted May 6, 2009 Last nights game was the last straw for me. The officiating was terrible most of the regular season, and it has only gotten worse in the playoffs. The way things are going, I wouldn't be surprised to see game 7 of the SCF be decided by some awful mistake by the refs. I'm more angry as a hockey fan than as a Red Wings fan. It's ruining the enjoyment of the game.

And THAT is why the NFL is, to be honest, run in a more professional manner than the NHL. This is 2009 and the league is acting like its 1979. We have all the cameras and tech to review every call over and over to your heart's content, and they chose not to use that....to the dismay of many fans. And you make a very good point....they could simply discuss a call between the refs/linesmen to make sure a mistake was not being made. This should be a mandatory rule that the NHL ENCOURAGES its officials to do. But no, one guy gets to decide the outcome of the game....and everyone that isn't a Ducks fan looks at the NHL and thinks its a joke. Also, anyone know why the NFL is more conscious about these things while the NHL couldn't care less? Does it have anything to do with a larger base of passionate fans that they're frightened that they might lose?
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted May 6, 2009 Given whatever the current rules are, I understand the referee's intent for blowing the play dead and the reasoning/rules behind it. The referee did it there. Okay. Fine. Yes, it obivously sucks for us but that's the rule. I'm not going to go on a rampage wanting to roast the ref's you-know-what's for doing this. I have been a sports official before, granted just collegiate intramural action in different sports, but you have to make so many decisions or things to let go in the heat of the moment, the action out there is so fast, that it's basically a really fast rapid judgment call. I certainly made my large shares of scrweing up as an official as well. So I'm not going to chew the ref out regarding this. Stuff like this though, intent to blow the whistle, or the "net" goals like what happened both against the Red Wings and San Jose in regular season games, or phantom interference calls need to be reviewable though after a "questionable" call. I'll emphasize again the referee had to make a choice under fire but the fact the stuff like this cannot be reviewable is a downright joke, regardless of if it happened to the Red Wings or another team. That's where my beef is. The referees are never the sole reason of why games are lost, we could play the Game of Scenarios all day which helped contribute to a Wings loss and it isn't only/solely the refs, but it is a damned shame the outcome of a game like this hinged largely on this "no-goal". The league needs to seriously get their act together to re-examine such instances where goals/calls can at the very least be reviewed.
