Now I know a lot of people don't like Gary Bettman and I know a lot of people that despise Gary ... very few like him. I was wondering how do the players / management / owners feel about him?

Would there be any way to fire him? Who would have the actual power the owners?

Bettman is loved by owners/ cap.

Hated by League Officials.

Hated by players, except for the few of his 'children', i.e. Crosby.

And he has absolutely no business being even related to the NHL.

Bettman is employed by the owners. As long as he's doing a good job at things like negotiating decent TV deals, keeping the revenue stream going, and taking the lead on collective bargaining issues and coming up with a CBA that the owners like, he'll be employed. The only people he answers to are the 30 owners, and right now they like what he's doing. Don't get your hopes up.

"Gary Bettman was hired to do two things," Jimmy Devellano, senior VP and alternate governor of the Detroit Red Wings, said yesterday. "One, to grow the game in the U.S. Two, to get a hard (players') salary cap. Nothing more. Nothing less. He's delivered on both counts."

So basiclly the only way his out ... is if some $$$ starts missing from owners pockets / wallet / bank. Right ? lool.

The owners have the power to fire him, and given that every metric used to judge the health of the league is positive I don't think he's going anywhere.

Most people who "HATE" him are blaming him for things he's not really responsible for: i.e. the instigator rule (general managers), the post-lockout rules changes (competition committee: guys like Brodeur and Shanahan), games on VS (because it was VS or no national television deal, ESPN did not want hockey).

He's seen the league through a lot of turbulence and it's doing quite well.

bettman's gonna see the league through alot more turbulence if many more of the southern states teams keep loosing multi-million dollars each year. revenue sharing is only there to keep his precious teams where they don't belong. he needs to give his head a shake and start moving the franchises where people are gonna go to the games. places like phoenix, atlanta, and florida to name a few are gonna HAVE to be moved soon seeing as their survival depends on other teams profits....detroit, toronto, NYR, habs, flames.... just give balsille and hamilton a ******* team already!!!

I agree with this. Phoenix is not wealthy enough to have a hockey team yet. Had they put the arena in SCOTTSDALE and made a commitment to spending for good playerrs, I bet that team would have had a better chance of success. I'll be glad if the Coyotes go back to Canada.

I think you missed the point that he hasn't made a decision so wrong that it hurt the league. In fact the players' union has done more to hurt the game than Bettman. Revenues are up despite the struggles of poorly managed teams.

When judging the performance of struggling franchises one must consider that any failure of a franchise affects the entire league. There are a few owners out there who don't have the first clue about what it takes to win. We are fortunate to not have a recent memory of that fact. A team should not be relocated because they have terrible management. Phoenix has a lot of assets and when they can put together a few winning seasons they'll have fans.

If the Coyotes move to Winnipeg, and suck, no one will support that team either. Bettman is doing the right thing by committing to that region's fans. It's the owner and the general manager who need to right that ship.
