My Plans for 09/10

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

1) Do not resign Samuelsson, Conklin, Chelios, Downey, and McCarty

2) Trade Holmstrom and Lilja to whoever for low draft picks

3) Resign Hossa to the same deal Zetterberg got (6.1 mil per year cap hit)

4) Restructure Lidstrom's deal to 5 years, 6 mil per season

5) Sign Kopecky to .75, 1, 1.25 three year deal

6) Sign Hudler to 2, 3, 4, three year deal

7) Sign Leino to a 1 year, 1 mil deal

Set Line-up like this:

Datsyuk (6.7) - Zetterberg (6.1) - Helm (.63)

Hossa (6.1) - Filppula (2.5) - Franzen (3.96)

Cleary (2.5) - Draper (1.65) - Hudler (2)

Kopecky (.75) - Leino (1) - Abdelkader (.71)

Lidstrom (6) - Rafalski (6)

Kronwall (3.25) - Stuart (3.75)

Ericsson (.9) - Meech (.5)

Osgood (1.45)

Howard (.6)

Lebda (.85)

Maltby (.75)

Larsson (.5)

That leaves the team number at 59 million. If the league adjusts for inflation (.0415), the cap figure should increase to 59 million.

That's how I would do it. How would you do it if you were Kenny?

Yeah, number 4 is wrong on many accounts - contracts can not be restructured and multi-year deals on players over 35 are something to avoid. For instance, if Lidstrom retired 2 years into his 5 year contract, his salary would still count towards the cap for the remaining three years. 5 and 6 do not properly convey cap hit, as you have to take the average salary for all years of the contract (so Kopecky would be $1m and Hudler $3m).

holmstrom is a one-of-a-kind player who is popular in detroit, hated by other teams, and great at what he does. he gets paid 2.25 million dollars a year. why the eff would holland trade him for a "low draft pick" when he won't be easily replaced and does not get paid that much anyway?

Because he's gonna sign Kopecky!

Trade a top six forward, goalie prospect and picks for Luongo. Sign him to a Zetterberg-esq deal.

Allows Lidstrom to retire within three seasons.

Yeah, because Luongo has proven himself as a capable playoff goaltender. Dude is overrated.

Restructuring may not be illegal after this season; the CBA expires, or something along those lines.

Experts, chime in.

The Players Union has the option to extend the CBA until something like 2011. If I recall correctly they have already done this or stated that they plan to. It has been very good to the players.

"That's how I would do it. How would you do it if you were Kenny?"

How does this translate into "***** about everything I've posted WITHOUT saying anything about how you would do it"?

I don't get it.

That's where the real FAIL is.

The validity of some of the OP's points doesn't mean the thread should be closed. He simply posed what he wanted Kenny to do next year. If you don't want to participate don't bother. That being said, everyone makes mistakes in regards to understanding the rules, the cap, or the Wings' system from time to time. Doesn't mean the OP deserves to be trashed for it.

how bout who cares? lets focus on beating the Ducks tonight!

If you don't care about the topic, don't post in it.

Can a mod please delete these threads until THIS years playoffs are done?

Why? The OP wasn't breaking any rules or even discussing whether or not the Wings would move on or be eliminated in this current round. Why would it be removed?

Here is what I would do if I were Kenny. Nothing until the playoffs are over........

/ thread

This has nothing to do with what the OP was talking about.

1. Conklin a solid backup, Downey a solid tough guy when needed.

2. Holmstrom is not going anywhere and Lilja is a solid big man who consistently has played good since being eliminated by Edmonton a few years back. Good guy to have in your 3rd pairing.

3. Yes, resign Hossa. May be impossible.

4. Lidstrom has been quoted saying he wants to play 1-2 more years. Why spend loads of money when he wont play out his contract.

5. Kopecky is expendible. Wont pay him over 1 mil.

6. Hudler and Leino will get 2-3 year deals.

Maltby and Draper dont have much left, One of the two might retire this year.

Other than a few 4th line changes...I dont see much besides Hudler and Hossa being a top priority this off season.

It has everything to do with what the OP was talking about. I believe his question was.....What would you do if you were ken holland? Correct?

So, here is what I would do......Nothing right now, I wouldn't even be thinking about it yet until the playoffs played out. Lot's can happen in the playoffs that might determine my moves for next season. For example. Someone has career ending injury. Therefore, if I was Kenny, I would be waiting until the offseason to determine what I would do. I just answered the question, that is all. I did not trash the OP as some did.

the scary thing is the OP is one of the fastest to jump off this teams ship, when we were down 2-1 he was already creating threads on the season being over, now he's wondering why people are giving him a hard time?

This would've been a more effective way of saying it. Perhaps I jumped the gun a shade early.
