Xitium 272 Report post Posted May 17, 2009 I just wish he would score from center ice on a goalie so that we would know its a foregone conclusion.
Guest mindfly Report post Posted May 17, 2009 I don't agree, in a few games in the anaheim series he looked VERY old.. he don't make the sacrifice plays anymore, the speed is gone and ne never jumps in and attack in the zone... i want to see more of the old offensive lidstrom not just defense. 19Hockeytown5 0 Report post Posted May 17, 2009 You've gone too far this time, Mindfly. I still think Chris Osgood should have won the Conn Smyth last season. Zetterberg was great and he's one of my favorite players, but I think he won because it was the last thing in the voters minds. His 2-way play and 5 on 3 kill in that series was nothing short of amazing, but I think Ozzie was the catalyst behind the run. In my opinion, the current mvp of the Red Wings would be either Franzen, Lidstrom, or Osgood. The role players have been huge as well. I don't think anyone stands out just yet. Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted May 17, 2009 I don't agree, in a few games in the anaheim series he looked VERY old.. He certainly can't change time, but he's putting a pretty good fight. he don't make the sacrifice plays anymore, This is a nonsense phrase, I bet you can't even tell me what that's supposed to mean. He gets the puck out, he doesn't put himself into position to get hit, so he doesn't need to "sacrifice" or whatever. the speed is gone Nick is an effortless skater and he's always in good position. He could probably afford to lose some speed, but I don't think he's lost much if any. and ne never jumps in and attack in the zone... Never, like when he notched the GWG in Game 1. But as long as we're on the subject, Nick has never been very adventurous in the attacking zone. I don't know if you're anticipating him to be running around in the slot or standing in the crease like Green or Gonchar or Niedermayer, but that's not Nick's game. i want to see more of the old offensive lidstrom not just defense. Being PPG in the series, having the most points among any defenseman in the playoffs, and basically winning Game 1 single-handedly wasn't good enough for you? Nick's offense is as good as it ever was. He did make mistakes and occasionally had a hard time against the Getzlaf line -- failing to get his shot through that led to a Getzlaf-Perry rush in Game 4 that led to a goal, or letting Perry get behind him for the GWG in Game 6 come to mind -- but it's not the first time he's made a mistake and it won't be the last. He's been the best Dman in the playoffs, so I don't know what else you're expecting from him.
Guest mindfly Report post Posted May 17, 2009 (edited) Now this is a laggy video but just notice how much more dominant and mobile he looks.. and how much more close and active he was around to the net, now he scores and do all the assists from the blue line, and that limits him alot i think, maybe he got told by coach to be more responsible defensivly this year... Look at like 2:16, that could never happen this year.... Edited May 17, 2009 by mindfly
Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted May 17, 2009 Now this is a laggy video but just notice how much more dominant and mobile he looks.. and how much more close and active he was around to the net Yes, in this montage of nearly 20 years and 300 goals worth of highlights. now he scores and do all the assists from the blue line Except when he doesn't. Look at like 2:16, that could never happen this year.... Nick scoring on an end to end rush? Probably because it practically only happened once! You act as though that was some sort of regular occurrence. It's not exactly the same thing, but maybe this will cheer you up.
Reds4Life 51 Report post Posted May 17, 2009 (edited) I think Lidstrom was our best player against both Anaheim and Columbus. 1 PPG pace is incredible for defenseman with a lot of defensive responsibilities. Best defenseman in playoffs by large margin so far and he would be my choice for our MVP. As for Osgood, he has been good and much better than during regular season but apart from few great saves here and there he has been nothing special. swiss_fan 3 Report post Posted May 17, 2009 I also think Nick has been our MVP so far. Franzen deserve a mention also. While Osgood has been good is it really possible to say that he has been the best goalie so far in these playoff like we can state it with nick's play? i don t think so.. Ward has been better IMO And by the way! you guys are forgetting a big thing. Even if we win the cup, the Conn smythe won t obligatory come to a red wing player. I say that, cuz i see the leage giving the Conn Smythe so far to Crosby (with 12 goals so far, and need 6 to set a new record),if the pens are making the final and he continues his pace even if the pens loose it. ComradeWasabi 109 Report post Posted May 17, 2009 If you ask me, Nick has been our best player so far with Franzen second and Ozzie third.
Guest mindfly Report post Posted May 17, 2009 ...aaaand last but not least, his visor is so ugly especially on that helmet, he looked way cooler without it

Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted May 17, 2009 The media can talk all they want about the 'decline of Nik' but all you have to do is look at the playoff scoring leaders to see that only one man is a point per game defenseman- Norris Nik. The rumours of Nik's decline were premature
Jocke 53 Report post Posted May 18, 2009 Ozzie giving Nick some credit after the 5-2 win in game 1. http://www.nhl.tv/team/console.jsp?catid=23&id=42205 Thought that was pretty nice
