Huge ratings for the Wings Blackhawks Game 1

Intelligent. Why don't you go photo copy your ass cheeks, or have a spit wad fight in the frat house while your at it.

Why is big ratings for this series even a surprise? First off, the Hawks led the league in road attendance this season, & set a record for home attendance, so their obviously a draw. Then you got them matched with the defending Cup champion, a fierce rival, & division opponent in a Conference Final. I wouldn't expect anything different.

No, they didn't. 13th is close I guess. The Wings are the draw.

Yeh the game was OK...but on NBC they really need to talk about Crosby and the Pens in general a bit more for me to keep my level of interest up.

I have a five minute rule, if I don't hear Crosby's name at least once in every five minute span of a game I turn that s*** off. I mean who doesn't want to listen to Pierre McGuire constantly slober his knob for 4 plus seasons now.

That first game doesn't really count -- most households tuned in to see Crosby talk during the intermission.

That what most people on here watched it for.

"Damn Detroit are playing AGAIN?! Its been what, three days since I saw Crosby? What the hell is wrong with this league? Why is there a stupid hockey game for an hour with Crosby in the intermission? It should be an hour of Crosby and THEN maybe some hockey. Only maybe. You know how it goes, "If Sid aint playing, I aint payin'."

Dear retard:

Classy, but from you who could expect anything less.

I appreciate your little crush on me and I know you like to follow me around the board, but it's getting stale.

Humorous that you you say I am following you, if you will notice I started this thread and I had 3-4 posts here before you even commented, I guess if anything you are following me. :yowza:

Keep it in context, please. I've really enjoyed the Wings games in the playoffs. That said, many reg season games were absolute snoozers, and if you wanted to see anyone playing with energy and actually looking like they cared at all, you'd have to turn and watch the Caps or Bruins (or even Ducks/Pens). Comparing wings postseason season play to their reg season play is like comparing awesome apples and boring apples that don't look motivated and dive to the ground instead of just falling off the tree like a man.

Worst analogy ever aside - Um, I'm not sure you know what context means. If you will see the post I was responding to Jake didn't ask "why would anyone say the Wings are boring in the playoffs. They are the most exciting team in hockey in the playoffs." He unequivocally stated:

Why would anyone say the Wings are boring? They are the most exciting team in hockey.

Based upon his question (and the fact that it was not a question about the playoffs but about the Wings in general), I provided direct quotes of you ripping on the Wings and calling them boring. You came along and took both his question and my answer out of context and pretended like the question was about the playoffs when it was nothing of the sort. I can't help it if you hate the way the Wings play and then love the way that they play - that is your issue to work out, I was merely giving him an example of someone who bashes the Wings and calls them boring. Nice try to twist the truth to fit your made up facts though.

I have no interest in you whatsoever, but you've mentioned my name or quoted me in posts more than once. The only thing I know about you or remember about you is that sometimes you've quoted me or talked about me in threads I hadn't posted in. I don't get why, except that you have a crush on me. Unfortunately for you, I'm out of your league. (I'm also very married, but my wife would be cool with any extra-curriculars I was in the mood for, she's cool like that). Feel free to ride your bike past my house all you want, just don't stop, please. You kinda creep me out.

Okay.

I'm not really certain that I have an issue to work out. The wings are the most tallented team in the league and they sleep through the regular season and play exciting, action-packed hockey in the playoffs. They are so good that they don't have to play very hard in the regular season. I still watch every Wing's game, but I do find myself occasionally lingering on other team's games even after the intermision in the Wing's game is over, just because sometimes other teams play with a regular season fire that Detroit either cannot or chooses not to match.

Correct on the first part, wrong on the second part.

The 2% is indeed the % of households that watched the game - whether they watched anything on TV or not.

The 5% is the % of the households that watched the game out of the total number of households that were watching something.

To make this simple, you could say that if there were 100 Million households, 2 Million watched the game - that equals 2%. But, out of those 100 Million, only 40 Million had their TVs on - so, out of those 40 Million, 2 million (or 5%) watched the game.

So 7.7% of all TV households in Chicago watched the game and only 19% of the people watching TV tuned in. While in Detroit 16.9% of all TV households watched the game with 38% of the people watching TV tuned in. In other words, our hockey market is twice as popular as the hockey market in Chicago.

Thanks for the info TigerDan! :sly: Much appreciated.

It's even more pathetic when you realize how much bigger the United Center is over the Joe.

JLA: 20,066

UC: 20,500

334 more potential fans per home game is a lot (41 home games = ~13,000 more possible fans).

True that.

...though you gotta take into acount - there's a ton of other stuff to do in Chicago. In Detroit you pretty much choose between, buying crack, selling crack, going to the zoo to check out the crack-dealer's old tiger, and watching the wings play. Chicago's a cool town.

That wouldn't explain then why Minnesota sells out all the time, or the Rangers. In Minnesota's case, they have the Twins, Vikings, Wild, and Timberwolves. I don't need to tell you how many teams from the four major leagues are within New York's vicinity. The whole reason Chicago did well this season in attendance was because they barely missed the playoffs last year and were one of the teams who performed as expected or better than expected this season. Chicago fans basically ditched the team when they weren't winning. Didn't this happen to the Bulls too when Jordan left?

Chicago's a great town, no doubt... but Detroit is not nearly as boring and dreary as assholes like you claim. The people of Detroit are probably the most likeable of all that I've come across in the entire country. You wanna see crackheads, go to Vancouver. Also, I saw way more homeless people in Chicago than Detroit.

Awww, you're not very nice:(

While I'm tempted to be swayed by your anecdotal expirience with Detroit, I prefer to draw my conclussions from a broader spectrum. I've been to Detroit. I've been to chicago. A lot. I send people to do jobs in chicago and in Detroit. Guess which one people look forward to going to and which one people dread. Chicago is a city with some awful areas. Detroit is an awful area with a few nice neighborhoods.

Furthermore, you simply cannot compare the two when it comes to things-to-do. Chicago has everything a person could want - it's really the only "full service" city in the midwest. World class museums, art galleries, etc. Detroit the city cannot compete with Chicago the city. Detroit the hockey team is vastly supirior to Chicago the hockey team. Chicago has more to do, higher income per capita and lower crime per capita. Detroit has...well, I guess they still have some of those pretty prop buildings that were constructed for the Super Bowl, right?

I for one think that, although the Detroit zoo is the worst major metro area zoo I've ever even heard of, the crack dealer's tiger is a pretty cool draw.

I think it happens to every team - except the Leafs. Okay, any hockey team in Canada. Maybe the Green Bay Packers too, they were selling out when they sucked (though, like Detroit, there's nothing to do in GB. At least in Detroit you can have a good time people watching). Otherwise, I can't think of many teams that sold a ton of tickets when they sucked for years on end. The Wings didn't.

I dont really find chicago as a rival after last series... you gotta remember .. to become a rival you have to win against the team?????? What you see now is a big bully of your hawks... not a rival... win the series and then bring the talk back. Fierce rival LoL... try Big Mean Bully.

You have failed to refute one thing I said. In fact, you solidified what I said. I know Chicago is a great city. I never said Detroit has more to do. I just said that ignorant assholes like you say it's much worse than it actually is.

IMO...I'll take the people of Detroit over the people of Chicago any day. I've yet to meet or come across one person from Chicago that was anything less than an utter a-hole. I blame it on their NYC-envy/inferiority complex.

I can't say that the people of Chicago are a-holes because I haven't got very much experience with them, but I've found the people of Detroit are really great.

How am I being an *******? What exactly am I ignorant of? You seem quite agitated.

Detroit in general is a dump. Few would refute that. You met some nice people there. That's nice. I bet Somalia has a lot of nice people too. That doesn't really have anything to do with the topic of why the Red Wings have filled more seats in recent years than the Hawks.

1) Detroit has been a better team and fans like winners.

2) There's more to do in Chicago.

3) Joe Lewis arena is one of a handful of places in Detroit where white folks can feel safe after dark. It makes sense that it would be a popular place to go.

I don't know how often you make it to the City but Chicago is great and there are alot of great people here, just like in Detroit. These generalizations about this city sucks and the people that live there suck are useless at best and inflammatory at worst. Say whatever trash you want about the Blackhawks, and I say alot, but come on.
