VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted May 27, 2009 We had this discussion last year. It meant nothign then and it means nothing now. Now....if someone from Pittsburgh touches the octopus we KNOW they'll lose the series. It's basically the only tradition that has upheld itself utterly completely the past what, three years? SaskatchewanRocket 0 Report post Posted May 27, 2009 He skated off with it to the locker room Yeah, that worked out real well for the Wings in '95.
Lidstromrules16 7 Report post Posted May 27, 2009 Imagine if Detroit beats the Hawks, and then goes on to beat the Pens again. Then Crosby would be like "i dont get it......I follow tradition, I break it, I suck bettman off, and we still cant win"......... Im not saying thats going to happen, I just think it would be funny
Lidstromrules16 7 Report post Posted May 27, 2009 Didn't Yzerman skate off the ice with it? I can't remember for sure, so sorry if I misremembered it He did, but I am pretty sure anything Yzerman touches turns to gold (that is, if he wants it too) so you probably should not use Steve Yzerman as an example in this particual situation. Wings_Rule_1010 4 Report post Posted May 27, 2009 (edited) While I'm not overly superstitious, it is hard enough to win the cup without extra forces against you. Might as well not play around with the hockey god. Edited May 27, 2009 by Wings_Rule_1010

Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted May 27, 2009 lindstrom won't do anything since there is no player named lindstrom Sure there is, and he's been golfing since April. After seemingly scoring on the Wings every time they met the Yotes solely because he bears a similar name to one Nick Lidstrom...

stevie for president 42 Report post Posted May 27, 2009 (edited) look at that table cloth. they didnt use that NHL logo until after the lockout. yzerman played 1 year after the lockout and we lost in round 1 to the oilers in 6 games, so he wouldnt get anywhere near that trophy. how legit is that picture?? EDIT: wait im wrong, the color scheme in the same as post lockout but the nhl runs diagonally from top left to bottom right like pre lockout. my mistake. ignore this. RedStormRising 7 Report post Posted May 27, 2009 Wasn't Lidstrom asked about this last year and said he didn't want to get too close to it?
8 Legged RedWing 367 Report post Posted May 27, 2009 What year is that picture of Yzerman from? Because he touched it in 96 and promised to never touch it again after they were swept by the devils... Lidstrom wont touch it this year, or any wing for that matter. Crosby is fried for touching it...

P. Marlowe 748 Report post Posted May 27, 2009 About superstition... I was growing a playoff beard, but then Detroit lost against Anaheim. I decided I had to shave it. Then they lost again. Ever since I've shaved only half of my beard vertically they've played fine.
betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted May 27, 2009 Somebody has to touch it. Otherwise how do you get it from the table to the locker room? The NHL officials aren't gonna do that for you.
