My heart goes out to Datsyuk

Huh? He skated yesterday in practice. crutches? If he can skate at all I don't think he has crutches?

My bad...I probably should have stated it differently. Thirty lashes with wet fettucine for that one.

He says it isn't broken, and the x-rays said it isn't, but it could be a deep bone bruise, which are a ***** to heal.

IIRC Dats took a puck off the foot in the Chicago series and that is what caused his problem.

On WXYT this morning, Pat Caputo said that Dats is "limping noticeably." So he may not be on crutches, but it doesn't sound like he's close to returning, either.

I feel bad for him, too - you work all season to get to this point and then you can't be on the ice to be a part of everything. I'm sure he's being buoyed by the way the Wings are playing without him, though.

Ad Lilja - wow, he's still getting daily headaches!! I'm starting to wonder if his career might be over. I mean, four months and he's still getting headaches! That cannot be good.

For the record, Yzerman was "limping noticably" throughout the entire '02 playoff run, but it didn't stop him being our leading scorer.

That's not a knock on Dats btw, just showing that the limp might not mean so much. A bit of physio, some painkillers and you're good to go. After the game, you seize up and start limping. Wash, rinse, repeat.

Lets not forget that Dats played almost the entire regular season injured, and was still our best (and the leagues best) player by a country mile. I am worried this is more serious for him to miss this much time and not be able to play hurt.

Pavs is a tremendous player and this time of year it doesn't suprise me that he will be playing through a lot of pain if he does come back for Game 3 and on. I'm sure a lot of players are probably playing through some amount of pain but as they say this is the Stanley Cup and you do what you have to do to win. I'm more concerned about passion and how much gas is left in the tank for everyone. I know the Pens are hungry for a Cup after last season and I'm hoping that the Wings are that much hungrier to keep the Cup. I can't say what this means to me right now.... Any ways back to the topic at hand I hope Dats will be able to come back for Game 3 and can have some type of impact in favor of the Detroit Red Wings. Let's Go Detroit Red Wings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I feel Dats' injury occured prior to the Hawks' series. He seemed fine against the BJs, but in the Ducks' series, not only was he having difficulty scoring (which could be anything), he stopped hitting as well. This guy is known for hitting anything that moves in the postseason, and it was back then I was thinking it could be possible to see Dats sit a couple games due to an injury. I don't doubt that his foot is also injured, but I think there's something else there that hasn't been made public.

But its all just speculation on my part. I could very well be wrong.

Perhaps he should even re-think this aspect of his play. However enjoyable it is to watch him throw his body around, it's much more important that he stays healthy and has a long career. Playing the way Dats and, to an even grater extent, Ovechkin do, takes it toll sooner or later. It's not that he should stop hitting, just pick his moments more carefully. A bit like Kronner perhaps, he don't seem to take all too big risks when hitting.

So, are the chances good he will be in Tuesday? He can play through pain and has done it before. I don't think it is fair to think he is soft and nobody, nobody ever will compare to Stevie Y. That's a measure that is out of this world. Dats wants to play more than we could ever want him to play. He'll be in if he can help us and not be a liability.
