Finnish Wing 110 Report post Posted May 31, 2009 He's always been a late bloomer. He has truly gifted speed. I'm not going to say where he will end up, but in my mind he could surely reach a potential people are not expecting out of him. The worst he becomes is a 3rd line shut down center, and well the best? The sky is the limit in my mind especially with the talent the wings can put around him. I totally disagree with this post. I would say that Ville Leino is definitely a late bloomer, but not Helm. Many of you guys expect too much from him...
taxijim 11 Report post Posted May 31, 2009 I totally disagree with this post. I would say that Ville Leino is definitely a late bloomer, but not Helm. Many of you guys expect too much from him... I agree with your disagreement ( I believe he is the youngest Red Wing to have his name on the Cup since 1964...pretty early blooming if you ask me).....as far as potential I have watched his career for years now & always felt he would be someday one of the top PK guys in the NHL,chippng in a few shorthanded goals. He always seem to know where the puck is going to be & uses his speed to get there first.
Glubki 17 Report post Posted May 31, 2009 I said this two series ago but Helm reminds me a lot of a young Michael Peca in Buffalo. He has a lot more speed and maybe not as much potential as a scorer but their style of play is very similar.
Dabura 12,232 Report post Posted May 31, 2009 (edited) I think in a long season he wouldn't be this good all the time. This. Not to knock the guy, but I've said a few times before that I think the big reason Babs doesn't play him in the regular season is so that he can fire on all cylinders come the postseason. Which is fine with me, seeing as how the postseason is all that matters. Edited May 31, 2009 by Dabura
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted May 31, 2009 Darren Helm is the next Mike Fisher. Wow, great comparision! He's tenacious like Mike, and hits, penalty kills, he just isnt as in your face right now, but in time that'll come and he'll be a bigger monster then he already is. I just hope he never leaves! Carman 387 Report post Posted May 31, 2009 I suppose 'late bloomer' wasn't the best of words to express what I was trying to say. I was meaning that he always exceeded expectations in every level and it looks like he is going to do it again on the biggest stage. Which is why I won't be surprised if he turns into a 20-20 or better player.
