C-TownWing 0 Report post Posted June 3, 2009 Very classy of them to cut Granato loose before continuing to semi-publicly offer his job to other people. And people wonder why we're a sought-after destination. Must be because we're cheating somehow.
RockyMountainWingGal 108 Report post Posted June 3, 2009 I used to dislike Granato (purely for being the Avs coach) but I slowly started to take his side. The Avs organization is in total disarray. Good for Tony - he should leave and never come back this time. This leaves them with no coaching staff, & no permanent GM not long before the draft - and they have the 3 pick. I have no idea what has happened to this org., maybe Kroenke has decided to focus on the Nuggets for awhile....
NGKEIB 32 Report post Posted June 3, 2009 Nice to see that Lizzy gave Erica a job (what a surprise, also signed him as a player). Who says nepotism is passé?
mjlegend 155 Report post Posted June 3, 2009 Nice to see that Lizzy gave Erica a job (what a surprise, also signed him as a player). Who says nepotism is passé? They're clearly first in line in the (insert top 2010 draft prospect here) sweepstakes. Who the hell is going to want to sign there?
wingslogo19 281 Report post Posted June 3, 2009 No real surprise here. Any idea who will be the new coach?

miller76 463 Report post Posted June 4, 2009 It was all the video coordinator's fault... He must have been showing the wrong video! I am so glad I am not a fan of the Avalanche. What a joke of a franchise that it is right now.
RockyMountainWingGal 108 Report post Posted June 4, 2009 No real surprise here. Any idea who will be the new coach? Absolutely none. I live in Denver and have watched the local news/read newspapers etc. Completely ridiculous. Offer Roy the job w/o having a plan for Granato, Roy declines, let go Granato, now back to square none. Who would want to coach here right now? No permanent GM, cap problems, AND a bad team on the ice. The only thing they have going for them is the 3rd pick - not sure if it's possible, but maybe they will screw that up too.... As a Wings fan, I find this somewhat amusing. As someone who buys tickets in this market and supports the NHL, I don't like it....I'd rather have a somewhat competitive team
Cougar to Falcons to Wings 1 Report post Posted June 4, 2009 I am so glad I am not a fan of the Avalanche. What a joke of a franchise that it is right now. I've been an Avs fan ever since I was introduced to the sport of hockey. I must say that I'm really glad you're not a fan either. The organization is all over the place. I didn't agree with them offering Roy the job and am glad he didn't take it. But a true fan always supports their team, no matter how crappy they get. And please keep in mind that this crappy team that used to be on top of the heap beat the beloved Wings 2 out of 3 games during the regular season. Can't help but wonder what kind of Wings fan you'll be when they don't win...

Even when the team wasn't all that good during the eighties. So don't incinuate anything about not being a true fan! And believe me, I am glad as well I am not a fan of that thing you have down there disguising itself as a professional hockey organization.
StevieY9802 6 Report post Posted June 4, 2009 The Avs turned into the biggest joke of a franchise. While I hated them before because if you are a Wings fan you have to, they used to be a proud and good franchise. I didn't understand the re-hiring of Granato after firing Quenville. It was bad enough he got demoted and then promoted again. I feel bad for Tony with all of that and of course the Roy thing. Makes me appreciate being a Wings fan. Jedi 1,865 Report post Posted June 4, 2009 Let's keep the discussion on track here folks. Discuss the Avs coaching changes/state of the organization, or don't discuss in this thread at all please.
RockyMountainWingGal 108 Report post Posted June 4, 2009 btw if you look at some of the Avs boards, a fair number of them are actually rooting for the Wings to win, ironically. There have been some heated debates over whether any true Avs fans could ever root for the Wings. The rivalry is a thing of the past.... Personally, I find it more fun when the Avs are good, and we still beat them. The only thing I might benefit from this is some cheaper tickets and empty seats..... Discuss the Avs coaching changes/state of the organization, or don't discuss in this thread at all please. I found it interesting that of the 7 teams that made in-season coaching changes this year that 3 of them made it to the playoffs (Carolina, Chicago and Pittsburgh). Obviously the changes Colorado made this year weren't enough. Perhaps with the changes that Colorado is making the team will be able to get it together and finally come back to play the level that I know they can. Can't wait to see how the draft goes.... especially since I don't agree with Sherman being made GM ( I don't feel he's handled dealing with the salary caps well), but they had to fill the GM position before the 26th and are scrambling. I'll cop to generally wishing the Avs well now that they have their AHL team in my hometown. Go Monsters. It's cool seeing guys you saw play before they were big make it big. Rivalry's long dead...in fact, the one guy left from those days is the one we never hated in the first place, Sakic. Wings fans have always had a healthier outlook on that than Avs fans. Of course, continued success makes it pretty easy to be fair.
