Gutierrez 7 Report post Posted June 13, 2009 Is it just me or did anyone else think Franzen was a big disappointment in this series? I know everyone is blaming Hossa and Stuart but the mule just did not show up and I think it really hurt us, maybe more so than anyone else not showing up. This is a guy who has scored more goals in the playoffs than anyone over the last two seasons and he scores one goal in this series. I still like the mule and I'm not hating on him by any stretch, I'm just pointing something out. I very seldom heard his named called or saw him driving to the net or involved in a lot of scoring chances. If anything I think his presence, or lack thereof this series, portrays just how vital he is to our success, at least offensively. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Unfortunately, that's where he makes his living (he is far from a perimeter player like a Hossa or a Thornton) so he had an especially hard time getting much done. I said first and foremost that when I knew the Pens and Wings were going to face each other again for the Cup that Hossa had to take this series personal and I don't think he did. When you take something personal in most people it drives you to play harder than you have ever. Hossa I must say was the first disappoitment. I know that there is a thread on here that says Leave Brad Stuart Alone but he did have some giveaways that did LOOK like they could have been avoided a couple to a few times throughout the entire playoffs and a couple times in the regular season. Sturat was another disappointment. Franzy I believe was a disappointment but not as big as some others. As someone said you Win and Lose as a team and it's not right to single out players but there were a few players that I thought could have brought their game to that upper level. NHLrules? 32 Report post Posted June 13, 2009 All of our 5 on 5 offense is generated by shots from the point, no of our blue liners were getting shots through; a HUGE reason we lost. The Pens do a great job of stopping these shots. That made the Wings powerplay all the more important, unfortunatly they only had it clicking for one game. We score on the powerplay we have the cup in our possesion right now. Our PP was horrid except for two games this playoffs. ******* HORRID. When we get our 5 on 5 game taken away from us we live on the powerplay. This is how we beat teams. Both were bad for us this series. Too many blocked shots and not enough PP production. I'm just trying to get a discussion or some analysis going. I just think people are looking for reasons as to why we lost, and there are a lot of them, I think Franzen's lack of production is one that a lot of people are not pointing out.
