BlakKy 58 Report post Posted June 21, 2009 Does the CBA allow for such things as 30 day contracts or something? Yep. Usually for dealing with problems associated with injury.
HadThomasVokounOnFortSt 878 Report post Posted June 21, 2009 Here is the thing, if he leaves and goes to another team. It will only be a one year deal because of how old he is. I think he should just hang up the skates.
RockyMountainWingGal 108 Report post Posted June 22, 2009 The Wings certainly shouldn't re-sign Cheli. I would think when you cannot even crack the top 6 anymore, you need to move on or hang them up. Filling in as #7 is fine for guys like Meech, but for a HOF, formerly elite defenseman, being a fill in guy, and not playing in the finals two years in a row ought to be a clue. I personally think it's time for Cheli to step down. Loved having him hear but it's time....
FedorovMan91 1 Report post Posted June 22, 2009 I really hope he does not re-sign. He cannot play for more than 6 minutes per game. End of story. You keep the loyalty but you don't spend the cap space toward players who do not help the team at all.
T.Low 1,011 Report post Posted June 22, 2009 He should have rotated thru the end of season and playoffs spelling the D men for a rest. That way, maybe they would not have gotten so run down and made so many mistakes in the playoffs, and Wings would have won. That was the ticket right there. NGKEIB 32 Report post Posted June 22, 2009 Good point. I don't think that he played 6 minutes a night because of his age, I think that he played 6 minutes a night because he was damn rusty (though age may have been a factor). It would be interesting to see how he would perform with regular minutes.
Selke13 0 Report post Posted June 22, 2009 if the wings dont sign him (and i dont think they will) i think he would like to sign with a west coast team, since he lives out there.

Esquire 324 Report post Posted June 22, 2009 http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=282583 It appears Chris Chelios has played his last game for the Detroit Red Wings. According to the Detroit Free Press, Chelios will not be offered a contract by the team after meeting with general manager Ken Holland on Monday. "I met with Chelios and told him we would not be offering him a contract," Holland told the Free Press. "He wants to play again. I really think that he does have another year in him. I think he can play 10 to 15 minutes. I think he can play on a third pair." In 28 games this season, the 47-year-old Chelios scored no points with a plus-1 rating. Over his 26-year career, the Chicago native has scored 185 goals and added 763 assists for 948 points in 1,644 games.
