Any news on Lidstrom's elbow?

I remember at the beginning of the season there were reports that his elbow was giving him a fair bit of discomfort and he would likely get surgery in the off-season. Any news on this, or does anyone know if he is in fact going through with surgery?

When Holland was commenting on the injuries, after the playoffs, he said that no one would require surgery, so I assume that Lidstroms' elbow tendinitis is okay.

Tennis elbow sucks, but surgery can make it worse. Physiotherapy devices are still the preferred treatment for athletes.

I really hope Lids is seeing a top-notch physiotherapist. His elbow definitely hurt him last season (it's hard to believe it didn't effect his game). This could be something that haunts him the rest of his career :(

tennis elbow reeeaally sucks. it made me and a couple people i know quit playing because it doesn't really go away. the doctor's recommendation is almost always just "whatever you're doing to make it hurt - don't do that". of course we didn't have pro quality trainer and phys therapists.

There is a consumer level air cast you can purchase at a hospital or pharmacy. It doesn't cure tendinitis, but it does relieve the pain almost instantly. Basically you play hockey, baseball... tennis or whatever then with your elbow all numb and in pain and you put the cast on for a while and it feels better. Repeat this for the rest of your life.

And yea... physiotherapy would be nice, but we aren't pros.

I was unclear on the Free Press article. I'd seen it too, but it seemed to me to be referring to playoff injuries not needing surgery, whereas his elbow is more a maintenance thing than an "injury". But I'm guessing Holland would have said something then if there was a surgery that would happen.

Thanks for the answers - I really don't know much about tendinitis.

tendinitis sucks. I stopped running over it (patellar tendon, both..), I haven't ran in YEARS and it still bothers me. It's not going to be a thing that goes away, it'll bother him forever. Surgery only helps in very severe cases to remove scar tissue from the tendon(s).

this is from my own personal experience.

The guy's been superman forever, I mean this just means he's getting up there. And he is unfortunately, it's just a testament to his ability that despite being darn near 40 he's still arguably the best.

Finally an update on it:

Lidstrom has been dealing with tendinitis in the elbow, but avoided any procedures over the summer.

"I’ve been doing rehab throughout the summer and it’s been getting stronger, it’s been helping me recover from what I’ve had in the past," he said. "I hope that’s going to hold up throughout the season. It’s feeling a lot better.
