Pat 44 Report post Posted July 1, 2009 (edited) Obviously, Holland made the decision to not keep Hossa. But Holland is one of the best GM's in all of sports, something triggered him to not sign him. Some of you may not know but Hossa must wear braces on both knees and had a major knee surgery when he was younger. Hossa will not be as dangerous as Toews or Kane in the next 5 years, and with the signing of him they WILL lose one of them. They simply do not have enough cap space without hossa and with him that just puts it over the top. Babcock stated in the playoffs this year that there young guys weren't gonna have good paydays down in Chicago. Chicago only has 8 players locked up for the 2010/11 season, and in those 8 players 34M in payroll. Anyway good luck to the Hoss because hes gonna need it big time. GOOD: We got rid of Kopecky. Leino is playing instead of Kopecky. Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Franzen Line. More Cap Space Helm, Ericcson are playing. BAD: We lose a force in our offense who plays well defensively. [HOSSA] We lost Ty Conklin who was a strong backup for the wings and could have developed into our starting goalie had Osgood retired. We Still haven't signed Jiri Hudler Need A Little More Depth Edited July 1, 2009 by Pat
Reds4Life 51 Report post Posted July 1, 2009 Kenny could not make a better offer to Hossa, it's that simple. Kopecky gone is awesome news though
Guest Shoreline Report post Posted July 1, 2009 (edited) Why are you trying to rationalize with people? Either they already understand this or they're going to ***** all summer until Kenny does something drastic regardless of the intelligence behind waiting to see what happens when camp/preseason comes. WE NEED AN ENFORCER, WE NEED THIS, WE NEED THAT.. HURRY KENNY HURRRYYYY. Edited July 1, 2009 by Shoreline
MadMan Mark 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2009 I'm anxious for Holland to reveal his hand. Just tough watching quality players (Hossa, Conklin) leave, but that is the NHL today. Wings can only make 1 or 2 moves this year, but will be well-positioned next year. I'd like to see Holland replace 30 of those 40 goals Hossa scored. With Cammalieri, you almost replace all the offense, just don't know if they could find a number that would make Cammy happy and keep us under the cap limit. dat's sick 1,002 Report post Posted July 1, 2009 The Hawks won't lose Kane or Toews. No way. They aren't in as bad of a situation as some think. At the same time I don't think they're that much better with Hossa instead of Havlat. Slightly better yes, but not a whole lot imo.
Snazzy 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2009 The Good: We got HELM!! That kid was one of our best, if not the best, playoff performer. And he's only going to get better. I predict that Leino will be 2x better than Sammy. Flip will step up now that he will get 2nd line ice time. Holland only needs to fill a couple of small holes. Wings will not be big players this offseason.
10 Minute Misconduct 104 Report post Posted July 1, 2009 Who exactly are the Wings gonna get at the trade deadline? When have the Wings ever got a "big name" at the deadline in the salary cap era? Not gonna happen.
AtomicPunk 296 Report post Posted July 1, 2009 Agreed, they need another finisher. Too many setup guys and not enough guys who bury the biscuit in the basket. Or a really good defensive forward who can let our stars be more offensive-minded. Holland must be expecting a lot of the younger guys and under-performing forwards for next year. I think Cammalerri might be a bit too big of a fish for Kenny to land this year, though. Andropov or Madden or someone of that caliber might be about the best he can do (quality wise). MadMan Mark 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2009 Remember, we get Helm for <$600K. He'll give us energy, hitting, and 10-15 goals.

kolo 10 Report post Posted July 1, 2009 This is a great post. Kenny Holland KNOWS WHAT HE IS DOING! We are pretty much back to our STANLEY CUP WINNING TEAM. Im not worried. The only possible worry is that Blackhawks got stronger and are in our division. So what we are the RED WINGS! We have been a dynasty and we will continue that. Not ever year is perfect, but we are still awesome contenders.

From what I hear, Antropov is asking too much money, but you never know what happens. Keep in mind, we didn't get Hossa last year until July 2. Holland doesn't panic, just re-tools a wel-oiled machine.
b.shanafan14 733 Report post Posted July 1, 2009 When Hossa came last summer, I knew it was a one year deal. Watching him walk to the Hawks is a bit tough, but I'm over it. We got rid of Kopecky. The list of players who would love to play for Detroit is long and Ken is the best GM in the league. He'll get as much out of our remaining cap as is possible. Just not a fan of Howard in goal... With Campbell and Hossa locked up and the fact that the salary cap is going to drop next year, they are going to have a very difficult time keeping both of them. Louisville 112 Report post Posted July 1, 2009 If we are able to sign both Leino and Hudler, nobody is coming here. That's a big if though, so count on one gritty forward at best. I like to think it's Neil or Madden, but we shall see how the first problem plays out.

Whoa, I thought posters at Lets Go Wings had more intelligence than that. I was proven wrong! You should do a little more reading a little less posting. therock48880 14 Report post Posted July 1, 2009 Tsn is saying that three teams have offers out for Chris Neil. Detroit is not one of them. Toronto is, though. Burke is trying to build an Eastern Conference good squad.
Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted July 1, 2009 Everything that has happened we already expected to happen or wanted. Why is everyone freaking out? Even the Hossa-to-Wings optimists knew he wouldn't be signing here as of Sunday, Holland announced over the weekend he wouldn't offer Conklin a contract, and nobody here likes Kopecky and is always saying they can't wait until he isn't a Wing anymore. Granted, it does kind of suck that they're all still in the division, but the Wings have to look out for themselves, and they're doing exactly that right now. Guest Shoreline Report post Posted July 1, 2009 (edited) Tsn is saying that three teams have offers out for Chris Neil. Detroit is not one of them. Toronto is, though. Burke is trying to build an Eastern Conference good squad. But the Wings signed Bootland some years back, and remember, they used to have tough guys like Probert and Kocur. That MUST mean they are going for an enforcer. Neil is 100% in the Wings sights, the reporters just don't know it yet. Or they'll sign Neil and just get back Downey from whatever team signs him, since Kenny is so tricky like that. Whoever disagrees with this is wrong.
