Youngstars game, anyone?

Alright, so I thought we could take a break from all the roster changing/doomsday threads and think about something positive this next season. It's been a few years since some wings have been in the YoungStars game (and no, I don't include osgood getting bombed 2 years ago as being in it), and since we have the rooks comin up, which of em do you think will make the team?

Leino I hope and it would be nice if Helmer made it too but that would have to be based on him being a complete badass and checking everything that steps on the ice, including those goddamn ice girls!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the Olympics trumps the All(most) Star Weekend.

As to the future, didn't I hear a rumour that they were going to quit the Youngstars? Please correct or confirm.

I'd like to see it continue with actual Red Wings in it.

Son of a *****, I forgot about the olympics! I guess no wings in the youngstars AGAIN.

Okay okay, new topic then: What will it take for Leino to make the Finnish olympic squad this year?

Doubtful. The prospective lineup that I saw (don't remember where) had Val on the 3rd line.

I don't see Leino in the Finnish Olympic team if there is no major injuries or flops.

OJokinen-SKoivu-Selanne

TRuutu-Mkoivu-Miettinen

JJokinen-Filppula-Lehtinen

Bergenheim-Nokelainen-SKapanen

JRuutu

Forwards look solid enough. Goaltending is good as well (Kipper, Backs, Rinne). It's the defense were the problem is. Numminen will probably retire so we like 5 NHL defenders (Timonen, Pitkanen, Lydman, Koistinen, Salmela). Koistinen and Salmela didn't look too good in the WC. Possible choices outside NHL: Nummelin, Vaananen, Lehtonen, Kukkonen, Niinimaa.

E: That's right. Hagman isn't there either. These lines are all about giving the players right roles and creating good combinations. Every line would have good chemistry. Two scoring lines, one line with good defensive forwards and one energy line. It just don't see Hagman there.

Vaananen and Kukkonen were both in the nhl this past season, and Niinimaa (if I had to guess) would probably take one of the d-men spots. Only if the olympics were a couple months later and Leino had a chance to show what he could do, he could probably take Bergenheim's spot easy enough.

Bergenheim is easily a better choice in the 4th line than Leino.

I don't think the defense is a problem for Finland as they usually play a tight team defense.

Funny thing with brothers in Finnish hockey: Saku and Mikko Koivu, Jarkko and Tuomo Ruutu, Sami and Niko (who is propably a 15-17th forward), Miikka and Marko (played D in Montreal in 90's) Kiprusoff. Olli and Jussi Jokinen are not related.

Maybe Ilari Filppula can be a reserve forward.

You forgot Sami Salo. I think Timonen, Pitkänen, Salo, Lydman is quite a solid top four even though none of them is a star.

How do you figure? Leino statistically beats him in every category.

I think because Leino is an offensive top 6 guy with slow skating while Bergenheim is fast energy guy. Although at least Sami Kapanen can be very offensive too so Leino might be a good set-up man for him.

Well, Sami has played as D too and has always been a fast skater. He's good defensively, although not that big.
