Forsberg?

Even during the heated rivalry between the Wings and Avs you had to love watchign Forsberg play. Even though he could single handedly beat us he was still one of the best players of the 90's and early 2000's. Who else can miss an entire regular season and then come back and lead the playoffs in scoring? Forsberg WAS an absolute beast. But those days are done.

Would it be a fun novelty to have him on Detroit today? Sure. Would it be funny to see one of our biggest rivals of the 90's suit up for us? Of course. Will it be an effective move if done by Holland? For all intensive purposes, most likely not.

I think that it is abundantly clear that Forsberg's NHL days are done. And if there is any team stupid enough to give him his 1000th chance for rekindling his fire, they will undoubtedly regret wasting the cap space.

It won't be the Wings.

Maybe Chicago will take him. :P

New to this forum however i've been reading posts for awhile. Makes my days fly at work!

Anyways I was wondering how everyone would feel about a possible Forsberg signing. I know he's had his foot issues but if his foot was good to go, does anyone think he'd take a shot at playing with a bunch of his fellow countrymen and a go at one more Stanley Cup? The face of Colorado has changed so I dont think if he could play he'd go back there...and Philadelphia doesn't have any cap room. Soooo why not Detroit??? He could play with Z and Dats no problem...or move Franzen to line one and have a Forsberg, Filpula, Cleary line?? .....maybe i'm living in a dreamworld but I would love to see a healthy Forsberg playing for a Stanley Cup in a Wings jersey at 2.5 mill for a year.

Forsberg himself said he was all but done I think. I'm not sure his foot issues have even improve to the degree of skating competitively again. If he was healthy, without question I'd love for the Wings to sign him. But even though he's also stated it wouldn't feel right to play for Detroit because the rivalry b/w Colorado and the Wings was heated when he was there obviously.

Good first thread and welcome to the forums.

Am I the only one who gets tears when thinking back to how amazing the Wings-Avs rivalry was?

Tears? Yes that's probably just you. I haven't openly wept at much in the last few years and that certainly wouldn't trigger anything new.

I'm waiting for a Lindros thread anytime now...

I don't know, the rivalry was so great that anything now just pales in comparison. When I'm with my buddies I sound like a 70 year old talking about the good ole days.

I still think there is a chance Forsberg returns to the NHL. It's a very, very small chance, but until he's given a definite "NO" I'm going to continue believing in a real comeback. Even on one foot he can still outplay 95% of the players in the NHL.

But as others mentioned, him coming to the Wings is out of the question. We don't have the cap space (even though I don't think he'd ask for much money to be honest) and there's the whole rivalry thing.

And because no Forsberg thread is complete without evidence of his greatness:

How many penalties would he have cost the Panthers there in today's NHL?

I beleive in that game the avs were down 0-5 in the 2nd period and then forsberg had 5 points including a hattrick to win the game 7-5. one of his best games. forsberg was truly a uniqe talent! god damn his injuries :guns:

I get tears whenever anybody on these forums mentions signing Forsberg. The guy hasn't been able to play more than 20 games in a season since 2006 when he played only 40. The last time he played more than 60 games in a season? 2002.

Let it go people. The Peter Forsberg of 2002 has lef the building....

Peter "Flopsalot" Forsberg, the Dean of the Dive sporting the Winged Wheel? I'd rather eat my own flesh while watching Gary "TheFOOL" Bettman coach the Wings than have Foreskin as a Wing!!!!!

I don't want Forsberg here, but only because he just isn't healthy enough to contribute.

Wings fans ought not call out other players for diving. Glass houses and all that...

Oooooh, Lindros! How much do you suppose he'd sign for?

(kidding, in case someone actually took that seriously)

My dislike of Forsberg is only due to the fact that he was an Av. I don't have anything against him personally, and if he wants to play yet again, more power to him. Just not here.

The timer has gone off, the toothpick is clean, and I'm grabbing a potholder. IOW, he's done.

did you see the vid I posted? I honestly don't understand where he got the reputation of being a diver. He played the game like it's supposed to be played, with speed, toughness and skill.

I think in his meager 14 game stint last year, he somehow managed to get called for diving.

Sort of like a Christian who had an honor the Devil day. Why on earth would you post such complete an utter crap on a Wings message board? Dude, are you just not a Wings fan or is there something seriously wrong with you? I mean besides that you're not a Wings fan. Do you think this is funny?
