Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted August 2, 2009 I thought he was an RFA, good tough player. If it's for a million or less, nice add for the Sabres.

RusDRW 155 Report post Posted August 2, 2009 he is signed for 550 and its two-way contract. I wish we signed him instead of Newbury. At least he can fight and has a good wheels.

Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted August 2, 2009 Interesting move by the Sabres... does this signal a move away from small, fast, skilled forwards towards a more balanced blend of players? I guess they've had tough guys before, but you know what I mean.

Guest GordieSid&Ted Report post Posted August 2, 2009 I have always hated him. He is such a good agitator though. He's the kind of player I would absolutely KILL for. WHY? Because he brings what the Wings don't have. And anytime you add something you are missing, you become more balanced. Think of it this way. Would Cody McCormick be a better value and bring more to the table than say, a Kirk Matlby? Maltby makes over 800K vs McCormick's 550k Maltby brings a veteran presence and penalty killing to the table. That would be useful if the Wings didn't have leadership in spades and about ten thousand guys who can kill penalties. Oh let's see, Z, Datsyuk, Draper, Flip, Cleary, Franzen So essentially Malts brings nothing to the table the the Wings don't already have an abundance of. McCormick on the other hand brings size, toughness, fighting and an all around physical game. The Wings are basically completely devoid of what a player like McCormick brings. To be fair, Malts did have 5 goals and McCormick only 1. But Cody had 12 points to Malts 11 so who cares. Neither is considered for their offensive prowess. I'd take McCormick over Malts I'd take McCormick playing regular, every day vs Abby playing minimal minutes when he can be a stud in Grand Rapids I'd love to have a guy like Cody playing for us. Doc Holiday 0 Report post Posted August 2, 2009 Gordie: We get Malts' salary whether we get rid of him or keep him. Hard to compare when no matter what we are getting that 800k. And hard to compare when everyone knows that Maltby is useless.

wingslionstigers 12 Report post Posted August 2, 2009 Price you pay for loyalty. Of course, so was Hossa. wink.gif Dude there was no way in hell we could have afford to keep Hossa. If we had the cap space to offer him the same deal as Chi i guarantee you he would have stayed with the Wings. Theres no way Hossa was going to sign for 2.5 mill that we could offer. Get over it already and quit bitchen about Hossa, Hossa didn't have the option to play for the Red Wings.
GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted August 2, 2009 (edited) I'm glad Holland didn't sign him. This poor beast actually fights and plays rugged, physical hockey. Not what the sport needs right now. He'd mess up that great 4th line chemistry that we had last year. Edited August 2, 2009 by GMRwings1983

I completely agree man. When Malts retires after this season (at gunpoint if that's what it takes) I hope Holland takes a run at this kid.
