90% of this board is better than Eklund.

Haha, I suppose. I'm not sure what I think about Prospal though. Getting him would bump Eaves or Cleary to the 4th line and that doesn't sound too good to me. But he'd be a scorer for the 2nd or 3rd line, which sounds decent enough.

I don't really want Prospal. This team has enough scorers and don't need another one really that plays next to no defense. Bertuzzi or Grier would be more valuable to this team then Prospal. Grier with is PK, grit and leadership ability and Bert has that size whichh e actually plays with unlike most big guys our team has had lately. You can expect at least 15 goals out of a healthy Bertuzzi this year and if Homer comtinues to suck you have another guy that pays infront of the net. A bit of a nasty side comes with Bert as well.

Aging players no one else wants and don't add much to what we lost in the last 2 months? nothx. So long as Ozzy improves his sub .900 sv% the wings PK and GA will both be a lot better (mark my words on this one). I say Prospal would be a good pick up with lines like this

D-Z-Cleary

Mule-Flip-Prospal

Eaves-Helm-Leino

Maltby-Draper-Homer

These lines would give the wings 2 good scoring lines and their last 2 lines would be defensively just as good, if not better than last season. Personally I dont see why all the man love for grier, he's a decent grinder, but hes 34 and on the decline, I would rather see someone who can score over an aging grinder.

I don't know what you meant by "scorer" but I'm assuming you meant goal scorer. Prospal is a playmaker if anything, and I think he would serve well to sort of insulate Filppula in his first year as a 2nd line playmaker. I think it's a smart move if Kenny does it because you've got Props and Flip feeding Mule pucks, and maybe it'll even force Flip to shoot a bit more.

I have no opposition to Bert, either, btw... I think he would be a lot better this time around for the Red Wings. If the team picks up Bert or Props at this point I'll be happy.

Hahaha What value is that? It was painful watching Homer play last season and playoffs. I wish LGWers could take off there Red colored goggles every once in a while. Its not a bad thing to realize when a fan favorite is cooked. I had to deal with these kind of posts about Darren McCarty for like two years.

How come everytime you post some smack about Holmstrom, you only use last year as a benchmark for your view on him? It's easy to dump on a player who was hurt all season, pick his numbers apart, and say he was hard to watch during the playoffs.

Go back a few seasons, if you have been watching that long. Take a look at what he is able to contribute nightly when healthy. I think if he is unhealthy and in pain, he needs to consider hanging them up. If he feels good, I am all for him standing there tipping in garbage goals nightly.

That's the whole thing. You can't go back a few seasons.

Go back a few seasons, and Draper and Chelios actually look like real important players to this team.

Homer has lost his effectiveness at doing anything other than screening the goalie. Of course that was always his strength, but at least he could score from time to time and contribute to the first line. Now, it looks like he can't.

holmer will start off next season with a bang. As others have mentioned he will likely have limited production later on in the season, but he is still an integral part of the team. He always ties up at least one D man fin front of the net, is great at screening and getting to players. He creates space near the goal and he also scores. He had a bad playoffs, so what... he wasnt the only one.

Im not sure hes top-line worthy, but id be definately willing to give the ZDH line a chance to do some damage again. Im happy with the team next year. I did want a bigger signing than eaves, but always knew the guys i wanted werent gonna work out. Id be happy with prospal, and for that matter a few other players. At this point theres really no one that we could get that everyone here would be happy about.

How true. If tomorrow Holland traded Helm for Ovechkin, several posters here would complain that we just acquired another europuss.

I think you can legitimately go back to the 07-08 season, one full season removed, and say he was effective regularly.

Going back a few seasons Draper and Chelios were hardly effective. Yes Draper is a great face-off guy, but ineffective on the ice otherwise. Holmstrom I feel is still a core player in Hollands plan with him standing in front of the net, pissing the opposing goaltender off, and tipping s*** in.

if we sign prospal...

Datsyuk-Zetterberg-Cleary

Prospal-Filppula-Franzen

Leino-Helm-Eaves

Holmstrom-Draper-Maltby

injured or not, homer's looked lost out there in the open ice lately. i wouldnt mind having him as a 4th line pp specialist.

That leaves us with a third line consisting of 2 rookies and one underachieving 25 year old with something to prove? nothx

The man love for Grier comes from the fact that he brings something this team desn't really have right now. A gritty third line player that can PK and play it rough. I can see Bertuzzi putting up just as many points as Prospal in the right situation while bring that physical side.

And just to point this out Prospal and Grier are the same age.

Personally I'm tired of aging players too, but at the same time young players come at a premium -- usually in the form of draft picks, and sometimes prospects. Sometimes one just has to make due. I don't think this team needs either Bert or Grier, but certainly would welcome Bert back, and cheer on Grier if that's where Kenny goes. I certainly wouldn't mind Grier as a PK specialist and mucker.
