IF we sign prospal...whats his role?

Franzen was brought here to be a grinder, not a scorer as he didn't show that much offensive potential. So, technically, he was brought in here to be tough.

Given he takes abuse in front of the net like Homer, of course he's tough. Maybe it was lost in translation, but I was mocking his idea that toughness is fighting, since it's popular here to point to Franzen "dropping like a ton of bricks" when someone engages him.

Haha, well those would be my answers as well, but I just don't know if they'll be all that consistent.

Flip could have issues with confidence in a bigger role.

Homer could fall back into last year's slump. Let's call a spade a spade... he was useless.

Leino looked great in his small number of games, but he was also streaky in the AHL and had injury issues.

I'm aware how boring it is. Hell, I'm bored too. I just don't think that things should get so nasty. I feel like half of the fans here are Ducks fans or something, haha.

He was steaky in that sometimes he was the hottest player in the league (the first round of the playoffs), sometimes he was an elite player (the start of the season), and sometimes he was MIA (the second round of the playoffs). Yeah he was streaky, but the key is that he averaged out to be an excellent player, especially when motivated. His injury issue wasn't terribly significant (especially if he had rested it a bit longer, see: Larsson's big gamble).

If there were more Ducks fans here they'd say they were "Hella bored". That's how I identify people from California.

I think Filpulla actually stepped it up during last year's playoff run. He really meshed well with Franzen and was great alongside Hossa. I think if you put a pure goal scorer (like Prospal) next to him, he really plays at his best.

If they signed Prospal this would be my guess on lines.

Hank - Pavel - Homer or Cleary, probably Homer.

Franzen - Fil - Prospal

Leino - Helm - Cleary or Homer

Maltby - Draper - Eaves

I know a lot of people are down on Homer here now but he will produce on the top line. I don't see him producing much on the 3rd.

One thing about Franzen:

Obviously the level of success he has had as an offensive player has been a pleasant surprise, but the fact he is talented offensively came as no surprise to Red Wings management. After only his first season in the NHL Babcock had Franzen playing on a top line in pre-season with Datsyuk -- unfortunately he was injured shortly after. Hakan Andersson has commented on Franzen's shot as a big reason he was high on him. Franzen was also an offensive star as a teenager, playing with adults, but had the bad luck of ending up on the worst team in the SEL (Linkoping) and pulling mostly defensive duties on a severaly outmatched team.
