Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted August 16, 2009 Great deal. Didnt want him, like at all, but I'd take him for that money over Williams anyday.
TheDetroitRedWings 286 Report post Posted August 16, 2009 Lol. We're paying Williams more than Prospal. I knew I'd feel even worse once I saw the other free agents sign for dirt cheap. Sad but true...
Doc Holiday 0 Report post Posted August 16, 2009 Might as well pack it in now. f*** you Holland, you should have a beer with Burke so you can both celebrate your overratedness.

Nobody is saying pack it in, people are just pissed that Prospal went for lower than a useless hack like Williams. What do you expect people to say? Yaaayy, Prospal only went for 1.1 million, good thing we landed Williams instead?

It's the ******* offseason for crying out loud. Holland isn't perfect, some signings look great, others don't, whatever. Great signing by New York, too bad Williams didn't go for that much. Life goes on.

Doc Holiday 0 Report post Posted August 16, 2009 (edited) Hey, I'm still puking in my mouth thinking about that game 7. The offseason has been one bad thing after another. People just want something to be excited about with this team. If people didn't know that this offseason wasn't going to be as groundbreaking as last, then I don't know what to tell them. And there are a few exciting things. Helm getting his first full season on the team? Leino? Osgood/Howard tandem? Datsyuk and Zetterberg Reunited? Filpulla possibly breakout year? No Hudler? We have a scapegoat in Williams? Edited August 16, 2009 by Doc Holiday
chrisdetroit 189 Report post Posted August 16, 2009 You have to keep this all in perspective. There are 12 or 13 forwards on the team. We are talking about the spots for the 10-13 guys. We are also taliking about 1 year contracts at 1.5 million. Who knows why we couldn't get Prospal and we got Williams. If Williams doesn't work out we trade him or send him to GR. NEITHER Prospal or Williams would make a big impact on this team. These are guys that will be fighting for ice time on the 3rd or 4th lines. I'm ok with Kenny giving Williams a shot as long as he is cheap. Is Prospal better than Williams? It depends on your opinion. Williams was an unsigned free agent who took a 40% pay cut and Prospal was bought out. Neither excites me much...
LeftWinger 5,153 Report post Posted August 16, 2009 There is a possibility that he signed so cheap for the Rangers because John Tortorella was his coach with Tampa Bay. He knows what will be expected of him. There is also a possiblilty he didn't want to come here because Mike Babcock was his coach once already and he didn't last too long in Anaheim, so he also knows what is to be expected.... mjlegend 155 Report post Posted August 16, 2009 I just puked in my mouth a little because there are people that are puking in their mouths over $400,000 for a third or fourth line forward. Rangers are a perfect fit for Prospal because of the whole buy-out situation and also Torts knows him. It's not that I don't think the Rangers got a good deal with him, and I also appreciate the importance of the guys on the third and fourth lines, but there's no no way in hell the signing of Vinny Prospal is worth vomiting about. But I just know by the end of the thread, it's going to turn out like that scene in Stand By Me.
Guest mindfly Report post Posted August 16, 2009 Malik @ Mlive.com But you might not like the other bit of news from Brooks--the Rangers managed to sign Vaclav Prospal, who was bought out by the Tampa Bay Lightning, for all of $1.1 million on a one-year contract. That's $400,000 less than the Wings paid to sign Jason Williams. Updated comment 3:30 PM: So, you ask, why didn't Ken Holland sign the guy? First and foremost, Prospal probably didn't want to play as a third-line center, second, he played for John Tortorella previously, third, he seems to prefer playing in the East, and fourth...He's an odd duck. Prospal's big ego and willingness to ruffle feathers if he feels that he's being criticized for his unwillingness to backcheck, not-there-every-night effort, mood, desire, you name it, he's Robert Lang-ish in terms of his high maintenance personality wouldn't fit in with the coach or locker room.
