Louisville 112 Report post Posted October 8, 2009 Like Mick says, if you see the numbers, back off the hit. Good to see he got fined. Idiot.
hooon 1,089 Report post Posted October 8, 2009 that wasnt very smart at all. Not only did he hit the player high AFTER he had already been hit and long lost the puck, but the way he followed through on the hit by taking him down was just foolish.

I know hitting from behind is bad and all, but that doesn't look bad to me at all. Yeah, he was second man in, but it didn't LOOK so hard, and the way it was timed, he probably didn't mean too much by it. I don't know, I've seen so much worse that that looks really tame to me. Theophany 110 Report post Posted October 8, 2009 (edited) That's the kind of hit where you bring in an enforcer. Hordichuk was obviously aware of his teammate hitting Boll; why do you need to come in and hit him a second time when he's going to be taken out of the play? Stupid, stupid hockey. Also didn't look like he tried to stop the hit in any way. Is taht video slowed down? I know hitting from behind is bad and all, but that doesn't look bad to me at all. The entire video was slow-motion. Most players don't go down and stay down from that kind of hit if they're not actually hurt, especially one of the 'tough guys' on a team. Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted October 8, 2009 Hopefully Boll wants some retribution next time they play.
Vladiator 116 Report post Posted October 8, 2009 If you look at the second replay on the hit, there were a couple of hits to the head with the elbow.

rick zombo 3,739 Report post Posted October 8, 2009 Kind of reminds me of Pronger's hit on Holmstrom in the 07 playoffs.

rage 24 Report post Posted October 8, 2009 Not that big of a deal. Hit to the head, $2,500 fine. That's pennies. And most players don't go head hunting like Pronger, so fluke hit?
seeinred 1,488 Report post Posted October 8, 2009 Meh, not a big deal. I honestly don't even think he should have been fined. It kind of reminds me of Ruutu's hit on Jagr in the Olympics. From the 2nd angle of the replay, it looks like Hordichuk hit him from the side. 2 for roughing should have covered his punishment.
xBrave_Heartx 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2009 Stop over-reacting boys, Both rypien and hordi were gunning for Boll. It's what enforcers do. both want a piece of boll. If you want players to slow down. Then your going to get half ass energy out of a 4th line.. Both had him in there sights. and both went for him. Darcy's hit wasn't that bad either. There are worse hits in pick up games of hockey then that. People just want to give enforcers a bad name.
AtomicPunk 296 Report post Posted October 8, 2009 I watched this game live and I saw the hit in real time. I thought the penalty called on the play was OK but I am really surprised that he is being fined. He was hit the first time and was kind of going down when Hordichuk hit him. HOCKEY MATTERS 167 Report post Posted October 8, 2009 (edited) I agree, Hordichuk should get 2 minutes but no fine. 5 minutes would be unreasonable, imho, but understandable. The HNL is trying to generate money to fund the Coyotes this year, so I think we will see a lot more fines this year. You heard it here first. Guest micah Report post Posted October 8, 2009 I don't think there was any intent to head-hunt here by Hordichuk. Bad fine.
Guest GordieSid&Ted Report post Posted October 8, 2009 I don't think there was any intent to head-hunt here by Hordichuk. Bad fine. Neither do I. However, regarding the fine, doesn't this have something to do with hitting a player already involved with another player so he is in a sense "defenseless"? I was watching a game the other day where two guys were battling for the puck, they were basically wrapped up and a 3rd player came in and smoked him. He got called for 2 minutes. They made reference to him being tied up with another player and the offender taking advantage. I think they called a charge? I don't know but I'm pretty sure it's not a good thing to hit a player who just got hit and doesn't have the puck nor has had it for quite a few seconds.
