cusimano_brothers 1,655 Report post Posted October 10, 2009 From Toronto Star : ... According to Chicago-based Team Marketing Report's annual survey released this week, Maple Leafs games at the Air Canada Centre carry an average ticket price equivalent to $117.49 (U.S.) this season, more than double the league's average price of $51.41. As for the "Fan Cost Index" – TMR's trademark calculation of the aggregate price for a family of four to attend a game – Toronto checks in at a league-high $628.29 (Canadian) or $585.57 (U.S.), an 8.4 per cent jump after last year's figure of just over $411 (U.S.) was adjusted due to a calculating error, the organization said in a release. ... Electrophile 3,554 Report post Posted October 11, 2009 This is partly why I watch MLB on my computer and see minor-league baseball live. I can see the Durham Bulls, a very good AAA team, for $9 a seat, right behind home plate. A bottle of Diet Coke is $3. A pretzel is $2.50. That is right there, $14.50 for damn good baseball, something to eat and something to drink. Why spend hundreds of dollars when I don't need to? I get better picture and sound watching games on my computer than I would at the park. Hence why I watch NHL games online as well, when I can. I went to quite a few Wings/Hawks games when I lived in Chicago, but that's because I knew where to get good seats cheap and I wasn't out an arm and a leg. Blueliner 69 Report post Posted October 11, 2009 They charge that much because they know people will still go to the games. Basic supply and demand. The Leafs would be insane not to charge that much, when people are willing to pay.
Buppy 1,720 Report post Posted October 11, 2009 Probably 2 million+ people in Toronto area vying for 19,000 seats. Surprised the tickets aren't higher, frankly.
Rivalred 630 Report post Posted October 11, 2009 Shocked no one mentioned the reason why Canadians have more money for hockey tickets is due to them not having to pay for healthcare!
cusimano_brothers 1,655 Report post Posted October 11, 2009 Toronto is the only city in Canada that will put up with this nonsense. In the end, no matter how hard thay try, even if you change the label on a brick of dung it is still just a brick of dung. Shocked no one mentioned the reason why Canadians have more money for hockey tickets is due to them not having to pay for healthcare! WE Canadians have Tommy Douglas to thank for this.
