mmorland 16 Report post Posted October 12, 2009 A new hockey book says the NHL's Edmonton Oilers and Toronto Maple Leafs almost traded cities in the early 1980s. The biography of one-time Oilers owner Peter Pocklington says the scheme called for the entire team to move to Toronto to play in Maple Leaf Gardens. The Leafs, in turn, would have found a home in Edmonton's new arena, which at that time was called the Coliseum. more in the article...but wow, wild concept. I can't imagine that going down in modern sports... http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=294546

I can't imagine that going down in modern sports... http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=294546 Just read about this today in The Windsor Star. completely ridiculous. no way this would pass in modern sports. but why do I get the feeling that even is this team swap would have gone down, that the Leafs still would have found away to fritter away all the Cups that the Oilers went on to win. toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted October 13, 2009 Read about this over the weekend, pretty crazy stuff, but pretty believable considering both Pocklington's and Ballard's involvement.
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted October 13, 2009 What a bizarre story. Would this even have been allowed? I would imagine the fans in the cities would be royally pissed.

Haha, I guess they could have just traded their whole rosters and sold the franchises to each other for $1 so the names would have worked out.
