Ozzie's better than Luongo

nice to see Huet is still providing his magic for the Hawks this year :hehe: 4 goals against the Stars. Only thing is they have a pretty solid backup though, Niemi.

You shouldn't laugh. We're in the same situation as the Hawks. Wildly inconsistent, soft goals, lack of focus.

are you a wings fan? really now? what's to say the wings can't?

The fact that we lost 88 goals permanently, and another 34 for 4 months, and another 32 indefinitely... we're definitely not gonna match Chicago offensively right now, so we're gonna have to rely on our goaltending to come up big over this stretch until we get healthy again.

You lost 88 but you also gained a certain number here and there.

It isn't like Detroit is going to lose exactly 88 goals. Come on guys.

That wasn't my point so good job at taking that part of what I said literally. If you could read between the lines, the point was we lost 3 big goal scorers permanently, 1 big goal scorer for 4 months, and another big goal scorer and playmaker indefinitely. If we had all of those people right now and healthy then we'd have a ton of scoring to not worry about goaltending as much like Chicago but we don't, which was my intended response to the other poster until you took a part of what I said to make that obvious statement.

But to sugar coat it and make it even more clearer to understand-- we can't score at will like we used to so we have to rely on our goaltending to come up big over this stretch.

I think all this has to be taken into consideration to help form a reasonable (HAH!) reaction to what's happening with the Wings right now. They just started to be efficient in passing the puck in the Kings' game. Before that it was as if everyone was out of position at any given time, and no passer or passee really knew what to expect. The Kings' game was when they started looking and playing somewhat like a team. We have new kids and vets out there. All lines have been juggled and we are missing scorers.

So I for one have every intention of giving them (including Ozzie) the benefit of the doubt for at least another month of games.

Peace out.

Come back to this thread after few more games. Luongo is top 5 goalies in the NHL. Ozzie was great last game but one game does not prove who is better and who is worse. I know Luongo is a bit overrated but he is better than Ozzie although he has never won the cup. If he was in any good team, which has balanced offenses and defenses, he could surely win the cup.

Yep, Luongo starts off slow, tears up the league in Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb, Mar then gets shelled in the playoffs...

Not sure I'd go that far as to say getting shelled in the playoffs. Granted, his epic meltdown against Chicago in Game 6 would qualify, but I'd say his play was the reason why they made it to Round 2 in 2007 and 2009.

To me this is just further proof that spending huge amounts on a goalie is a waste within the Red Wings' system.

Obviously the sample size is too small, but it still doesn't change the fact that a Luongo-type goaltender isn't needed for the Wings to be successful.
