Theophany 110 Report post Posted October 21, 2009 Nope, I don't think all teams but the Wings are questionable. It helps to not try to infer anything beyond what I'm saying. The Sabers are solid. The Avs are solid. I never said that they weren't solid, just that we would have beat them, had we played against them like we did against the Hawks, Caps, Kings, or Avs. Personally, I know enough about hockey and sports to draw conclusions based on performance so far, and not just from the win-loss records. The Avs and Sabers are both solid teams, but the Sabers are going to have a tough time breaking into the top eight in the East. The Wings will be fine, though. They're a (mostly) veteran team with lots of playoff experience; they notice slides, and they do their best to correct it. They haven't missed the playoffs in how many years? People tend to jump to "OH MY GOD THEY'RE GONNA MISS THE PLAYOFFS" every time the Wings lose a game in the regular season. Relax. Just like Ozzie, the team knows when their back is up against the wall better than anyone else, and they know how to turn it on. They'll be fine. Though beating teams like Chicago (who are ridiculous outside Huet/Niemi), the Sharks, and others in the West will likely be as—if not more—challenging than the run to the SCF last year. I have full confidence that the Wings will be fine. All I said was that the Sabres are playing better hockey than the Wings right now and you blew it up into this big 'Broken 16 thinks the Sabres are a better team than the Wings and he thinks that the Wings will miss the playoffs' drama. If that makes me stupid, biased, dramatic or all three... so be it. I don't understand why everyone keeps talking about the kind of hockey teams are playing right now. It's not in the subject of the thread nor is it in any of my posts. The question is, "Who is the better team?" The Buffalo Sabres are not a better team than Detroit. You need much more than 6 games of "outhustling" to overturn the plethora of reasons Detroit is better. And by the way. Detroit can't be that bad if they beat Chicago and Washington. Der. Currently, the Wings look very human and very beatable. BTW... what do you propose we discuss since it bothers you so much to discuss current events? I have no problem donning the red glasses and getting all giddy over good memories. The question is, "Who is the better team?" The Sabres are playing better hockey right now. Get over it. The Buffalo Sabres are not a better team than Detroit. You need much more than 6 games of "outhustling" to overturn the plethora of reasons Detroit is better. The Wings are playing lazy hockey right now and they know it. Pick an excuse: They are tired, they are hurt, they are complacent, too many new faces, etc... etc. Doesn't change the fact that the Sabres have a winning record ON TOP OF handing the Wings their asses a week ago. Now before you go putting words into my mouth again, let me do a little preemptive strike. NO, I don't think the Sabres are a better team overall. They are just working a lot harder than the Wings are. NO, I don't think the Sabres will make it to the SCF. And by the way. Detroit can't be that bad if they beat Chicago and Washington. I know that putting words into my mouth makes it easier for you to prove a point, but try and refrain. Detroit isn't playing good hockey right now. If they were, they wouldn't have dropped back to back games in Sweden. They wouldn't be 3-3-1 right now. They wouldn't have blown a 3 goal lead in the third period against the Avalanche. HOWEVER... I'm very confident that they will turn it around (as usual) and finish top 3 in the conference despite the fact that I've already found myself saying to the TV: "Oh my god... the Wings look like an AHL team" more times this season than last. You normally would but you understand that you'd be contradicting yourself. The reason that most people with half a brain would bet that Detroit would finish with more points this season than the Sabres is because they are of the opinion that they're a much better team. And that's what the poll is about. One more time... "Which team is better?". Now, you might be of the opinion that Buffalo is a better team overall. Fair enough. But the majority disagree. The reason I said what I said is because because I understand that not only are their a ton of variables in the game of hockey, their are a ton of variables in life. Anything can happen. Dats and Z could get hooked on reefer and start a rock band for all we know. Fact is, none of us know for sure how this season is gonna play out. Especially considering this crazy start we've already had around the league. I thought that was the fun part... not knowing. "I interpret the silly little software different than you" You may have gotten a semi imagining all the glorious memories the Red Wings have provided over the years while playing with that cute little ranking system. Personally, I just picked teams based on how I think they would fare in a head to head match up based on what I've seen recently.
