FunkedUp 29 Report post Posted November 3, 2009 http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/20...enseman_do.html DETROIT -- The Detroit Red Wings have recalled defenseman Doug Janik from their AHL affiliate, the Grand Rapids Griffins. Janik will replace Brian Rafalski in the lineup tonight against the Boston Bruins. Rafalski (flu) did not skate Tuesday morning. Jonathan Ericsson, who missed the last game because of the flu, also did not skate and will not play. Niklas Kronwall, who didn't practice Monday due to the flu, was skating Tuesday morning and will play. Janik, 29, has a goal, five assists, 15 penalty minutes and a plus-4 rating in 10 games with the Griffins. He has three goals, 13 assists and 123 penalty minutes in 161 career NHL games with Buffalo, Tampa Bay, Dallas and Montreal. Coach Mike Babcock said he'll use Janik and Derek Meech together in warmups, along with Nicklas Lidstrom-Niklas Kronwall and Brad-Stuart-Brett Lebda. But it might not be that way in the game. "It's a good opportunity for him,'' Babcock said. "He's played well in the (NHL) before, so it shouldn't be a problem for him.'' The forward lines remain the same from the last game, with the exception of Ville Leino returning to the lineup, replacing Brad May, who did not skate: Bertuzzi-Datsyuk-Holmstrom Cleary-Zetterberg-Williams Draper-Helm-Eaves Leino-Abdelkader-Maltby Chris Osgood is starting in goal. Should be interesting. Raffy and Ericsson are out, hopefully Kronwall is good to go. Damn flu is hitting the team!
Hockeytown Yeti 0 Report post Posted November 3, 2009 Anyone have the low down on Janik and how he has been playing? I don't know much about him. Is he an Ericcson type player or more of a Rafalski?

Viking_Erection 1 Report post Posted November 3, 2009 Our D for tonight is horrendous! All you religious types please start praying for tonight. The entire team will need to keep it simple and play safe - The entire team needs to cover defense and be ready. Ozzie will need to play like the world class goalie that he is. Guest E_S_A_D Report post Posted November 3, 2009 Janik's played 161 games in the NHL. He can fight too. He's fought McGrattan, Reich, and some other heavies. I like this temporary call-up.

stevkrause 1,247 Report post Posted November 3, 2009 so essentially andreas lilja without the powerhouse uppercut I'd say a less solid defensively, better fighting Lilja, with a LITTLE less of a step (and I emphasize little)

Carman 387 Report post Posted November 3, 2009 Wow isn t it a big blow in Kindl's face (another one) Not really, it's a lot easier to call up a veteran like Janik then take ice time away from a prospect. Not to mention Kindl needs to focus on the basics in the AHL then get thrown to the wolves in the NHL.
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted November 3, 2009 Wow isn t it a big blow in Kindl's face (another one) Not really. Janik has NHL experience. Our defense is completely devastated at the moment, you don't throw a kid like Kindl into that mess. Can you imagine a pairing of Lebda or Meech and Kindl? Yikes! Janik was really the only possibility considering the situation.

Not to mention Kindl needs to focus on the basics in the AHL then get thrown to the wolves in the NHL. Well, so i hope than in 5 years Kindl will be ready to start! Not really. Janik has NHL experience. Our defense is completely devastated at the moment, you don't throw a kid like Kindl into that mess. Can you imagine a pairing of Lebda or Meech and Kindl? Yikes! Janik was really the only possibility considering the situation. So you don't throw a kid like Kindl when we have injuries, and of course not also when we are stacked.. So a stupid question: when is he supposed to get his opportunity? The management should definitively not be very high on him (=quite low), cuz in the same situation last year, Ericson would have received the call.
Carman 387 Report post Posted November 3, 2009 That's because Kindl has been very very poor in the defensive zone in the AHL. He isn't very good defensively yet that's why he needs to improve in the AHL first. Same reason why Abdelkader wasn't called up before Helm, Helm isn't going to be a top liner therefore he can call up and get going in the NHL, while Abdelkader can stay down in the AHL hone his game and come up and play on the top lines(obviously injuries hurt this plan this year). You seem like a Kindl homer, is he your brother or something? Do you want to see him get beat wide by George Laraque in the NHL nightly?

skyphoenix 153 Report post Posted November 3, 2009 Sounds good to me. We might be a little better without Rafalski in the lineup. I wonder if Janik will turn the puck over 10 times tonight
Dimaline312000 51 Report post Posted November 3, 2009 Hopefully Janik an make a positive impact on tonights game. I don't expect a whole lot but as long as he can contribute to the team that would be good.

You seem like a Kindl homer, is he your brother or something? Do you want to see him get beat wide by George Laraque in the NHL nightly? I'm not at all a Kindl homer, quite the opposite in fact. And yes could be fun Laraque beat him wide but wouldn t happen tonight anyway.. I'm highly frustrated with this Kindl, like many of us probably are. I would just see what he can do, and i was stating the obvious saying the managment is not very high on him.. On the other side, i m also frustrated sometimes with the Wings management who seems not to favour always the best players (example: playing Maltby over Abdelkader in the finals), and not also the youth, but only the veteran status..
