Carman 387 Report post Posted November 17, 2009 Yep, the 19 year old sixth overall pick is joining Hudler in the KHL. Hitchcock must have threatened to eat him or something to that extent. http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=298705
Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted November 17, 2009 Wow. I guess he wasn't ready to make the jump to the NHL and wasn't willing to do the AHL thing.

hak 21 Report post Posted November 18, 2009 I've been thinking about filatov recently and wondering why he doesent put up more points (he has 2 points in 12 games). If I remember correctly he had a hat trick last season in his first? game. Is he stuck on the third/fourth line with minimal ice time or is it just because he is so young and not ready or is it hitchcock or the organization doing something wrong? RusDRW 155 Report post Posted November 18, 2009 Is he stuck on the third/fourth line with minimal ice time or is it just because he is so young and not ready or is it hitchcock or the organization doing something wrong? Right on target. He is averaging around 7 minutes per games playing with Dorsetts.
hak 21 Report post Posted November 18, 2009 Right on target. He is averaging around 7 minutes per games playing with Dorsetts. I see.. Shouldnt he get more ice time then that or do the jackets go by the philosophy "prove yourself first, then get ice time"? He is only 19 years old but he IS a 6th overall pick and has been here soon 2 years..

hak 21 Report post Posted November 18, 2009 http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puck_dadd...?urn=nhl,203134 that is sort of what i suspected the reason was.. he seems like a down to earth guy, no drama and everyone seems to agree. i gained a bit of respect to filatov after reading that interview i just wish hitchcock would have given him more of a oppurtunity to prove himself and use his offensive abilities on a more critical role on the team. doesent it seem a bit strange for you guys that a first rounder like filatov is getting close to no ice time and get little confidence from the coach? i hope he develops in russia and that he come back and make an impact
skacore 2 Report post Posted November 18, 2009 yeah learning to play defense f*** that eh haha remember that other guy who wasn't getting ice time last year who dipped from the league? what was his name..?? oh wait that was Stamkos who's a two-way superstar in the league just a year later
hak 21 Report post Posted November 18, 2009 yeah learning to play defense f*** that eh haha remember that other guy who wasn't getting ice time last year who dipped from the league? what was his name..?? oh wait that was Stamkos who's a two-way superstar in the league just a year later he got alot more ice time than filatov and they still believed in him all season (well he was a hyped 1st overall pick so its hard to compare). what happend after half the season? he blossomed.. if filatov would have gotten a bigger role who says that would not have happend to him too? i'm definately not an expert but i just think they might have turn down filatov a bit too much.. he's even been a healthy scratch a couple of games
Guest EZBAKETHAGANGSTA Report post Posted November 18, 2009 (edited) He states in the Puck Daddy interview its just one more year to develop. Don't agree with it, but I persoanlly dont think it is that big of a deal. Dosen't come off as an egomaniac imo, just someone who disagrees. It's not like he requested a trade. People need to let the fact he is russian stop blinding them. Edited November 18, 2009 by EZBAKETHAGANGSTA
RedWings Gone Wild 6 Report post Posted November 18, 2009 Nothing special here. Another kid who isnt willing to take his licks and earn his ice in the NHL, so he ditches for KHL. Good riddance. He was getting zero icetime and was a regular healthy scratch... it would make zero sense for him to try and stick it out in the NHL this season when he could develop in Russia with actual playing time and come back next year. It was between that and the AHL. I think he made the right choice.

It was between that and the AHL. I think he made the right choice. I totally agree with you. I heard a couple of people who consistently covering CBJ that there is probably more to that story than you see. First of "smaller russian skilled player" isn't exactly Hitch's kind of player and he doesn't like him for some reason. When Filatov played he actually looked pretty good, but playing on the fourth line will not help his development, but apparently coach doesn't trust him and I saw the whole analysis of his ice time and it's ridiculous so basically he wasn't given a chance to prove himself yet. I personally don't think AHL would help him in any way since he is a different kind and team have to be patient with him and give him more ice time and forgive for any rookie mistakes he'll make, but apparently it's not going to happen in CBJ. Potential wise is is similar to Stamkos, but he just haven't had a chance to prove that yet.
Carman 387 Report post Posted November 18, 2009 He should be playing in the AHL. He has zero board game, and is about as unphysical as they come. He isn't small either, it's not a physical issue. Not to mention he looked awful in every game this season with defensive zone blunders, penalities he was really hurting the team. Hitchcock tried him on the PP, and he was awful, he didn't forecheck well couldn't win battles etc. Also they need defense on that team 28th overall, obviously Hitchcock is going to want to play the people he trusts defensively. Hitchcock actually has the team making the playoffs, and winning the division he is doing this with a very average team. He needs every single player to buy into his system, and cannot afford to have a complete defensively liability in the top 6 if he is making huge mistakes at 7-8 minutes, he is going to be making even more at 15-18. All of his deficiencies would be solved playing one more year in the AHL. He needs to be playing physical north american hockey if he is going to want to reach his potential in the NHL. The KHL is more of the same comfortable game he is used to and will not help him in the area's he desperately needs, and will more then likely boost his ego as he becomes a leading scorer over there.
