Guest Four Report post Posted November 24, 2009 Toronto had 61 shots on goal tonight and still managed to lose. Roloson saved 58 shots. CRAZY.
toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted November 24, 2009 Pretty crazy, probably worth pointing out that the Islanders only had 21 shots....so, they outshoot them 61-21.......and lose. Pretty depressing for a team that needs every win they can get and don't get a win in a game like this.

Guest Four Report post Posted November 24, 2009 Especially when they get in to extra time, Roloson must have been completely empty and still got the win.

And here I thought the Wings were the masters at making ordinary goalies like like Vezina candidates.
MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted November 24, 2009 The Leafs dominated for all but three minutes of the game when the Islanders scored on three straight shots and Toskala pulled himself out of the game with a groin injury. Gustavsson came in partway through the 2nd and only faced 7 shots. Still, they probably put 50 shots right into Roloson's chest. Wayne Primeau is the only guy on the team that will stand in front of the net.
Superman54 91 Report post Posted November 24, 2009 (edited) Thats quite amazing to actually have that many shots and lose. As the maple leafs are aware of...it never rains, it pours....all......season.............long. Edited November 24, 2009 by Superman54

You had to sit through a loss where you team poured 62 damn shots on the net. Kudos to you man, you're a true fan. Still, the Leafs better turn things around-- I told my father at the start of the season that this year's Leafs team would be competitive and he's not happy with me right now. Pun intended? Anyway, a nice stat padding game for Roloson.

cusimano_brothers 1,655 Report post Posted November 24, 2009 Pun intended? From TSN : The Toronto Maple Leafs placed forward John Mitchell and goalie Vesa Toskala on injured reserve and recalled netminder Joey MacDonald and forward Christian Hanson on Tuesday. ... ... Mitchell suffered a knee injury in Monday night's 4-3 overtime loss to the New York Islanders while Toskala had to leave the game after tweaking a groin injury. ... zrf 0 Report post Posted November 24, 2009 From TSN : That's a lot of shots, but there's always something to be said of the quality as well. As a Hawk fan I am quite accustomed to seeing the Hawks heavily outshoot an opponent (we lead the league by a gargantuan margin in shot desparity) only to lose. Often these "shots" are coming from the point which inherently lowers your chances straight away. In addition, blasting shots from the point can often lead to rushes going the other way, especially if you have errant shooters that miss the net. In the past (especially last year) the Hawks often were odd-man rushed by a 2 to 1 margin. Makes it easy to lose leads/games even if you pour it on in the other end. Not to mention, all a team needs to do is get 1 more shot on goal than the Leafs have scored to potentially be in line for the win. A wall of toilet paper would have a better chance of stopping an incoming puck than Toskala.

He has short stretches where he's quite good, but he quickly transforms back into the Toskala that sported a 5.50+ G.A.A. at the start of the year. He was booed as he left the ice last night. Gustavsson was cheered heavily once he came off the bench and again when they announced him as being in goal. Gustavsson had a couple rough starts lately, but he'll get a good stretch here to hopefully get some confidence again and take the #1 job once and for all. Hopefully you guys can start getting some consistency in net as I feel your pain. Huet and his 5 + million contract might be available if you're interested . akustyk 84 Report post Posted November 24, 2009 (edited) but but but... wasn't Brian Burke supposed to bring them the cup? so... it's not this year? again in all honesty: this crap happens. and Roloson is actually not a bad goalie when facing shot gallores. the Leafs on the other hand... they're the league bottom (ex aequo with Canes though) for some reason Edited November 24, 2009 by akustyk

Huet currently has the 26th lowest save% in the league. DUH!
